Cause of stuttering?

I've made a backup of Final Fantasy X on a DVD+R and managed to load it with CDLoader. Unfortunately, at some points of the game, the FMVs stutter. Could this be the cause of it being a DVD+R and my PS2 being an old V3? Would it make any difference by burning it on a DVD-R? I only use high grade Sony DVDRs, so the type of media shouldn't be a problem.
