Hi Gang,
Is there a way to make PS2 games bootable after copying without a mod chip?
Does anybody know what the security checks are that the PS2 knows that you have a backup inserted, and not the original.
I've read that with the PS1 games you could read boot sectors off the cds and put them on the new discs you burnt?

and you heard wrong about the ps1. well, there were a couple really old 2x burners that could supposedly do it, but i've never seen any actual proof of it. and those burners even just a couple years ago were impossible to find.
I didn't hear that, I read it, and you wouldn't need an old burner to do it.
Anyway, do you know how the ps2 knows the difference between the real discs, and a backup? Is it just like the barcode deal with the gamecube?
no for the ps2 the real discs have bad sectors that the ps2 looks for. if it does not find them, the disc wont boot. the problem is, retail dvd writer drives cannot write bad sectors. therefore, a modchip is needed to boot them. (curcumvent the check for the bad sectors)
ok, fine, you READ wrong about the ps1 then. and yes, it was old burners that could supposedly do it back when burners were new and standards were still "iffy". i'm pretty sure oen of 'em was a teac, dont remember the other.
and like i tried pointing out before, if you apply a little logic to the situation, if no one needed to buy mdochips, no one would be using modchips.
People that are so cheap that they can't even pay the one time fee for a modchip & installation (should they not be able to do it themselves) are incapable of logical thinking.
The other was an old Yamaha that allowed the bad sectors..
And if there was no need for mods, we would have a decent dreamcast by sony.. :D lol
