The "thrashing" is actually the PS2 laser trying to lock on and focus on the data track. That's why cheap media sucks...
Is this problem version specific
As the Version 7 seems to have a much more sensitive laser and can read more media than previous versions.
So is it ok to assumet the V7 does not work as hard with cheap media?
Also does the same go for CDR?
ok seriously i have a brand new v7(8) i dunno dont care, but it seems that PRiNCO DVD-R actually have faster loading times etc... And ive never heard any thrashing...
I also have a no-solder, So it seems im screwed??..
Bottom Line is, same with the xbox, all the drives seem to be picky
as my friends wont even boot DVD-R Movies!! (Unmodded v7)
so all-in-all ive tried Optodisc, Princo, and Apple.
Apple seems to be the best, but for me having so many games and so little time, i think ill just keep using this here 100pk of princos. If my laser goes out fine, ill just re-apply my "VOID" sticker, that i removed with lighter fluid.
Also, it makes me feel a little better knowing that i have more than 2 friends whose DVD drive crapped out on them after a year or so, and they never used backups.
*It doesn't matter if it's a Neo2.2/R-mod/No-swap - poor media causes accelerated wear&tear to the laser.
*Ritek are not that better then Princo.
*Access times doesn't always connected to the quality of the media/burning.
so , anyone here can be right or wrong and know could tell....
it does sort of matter the mod, because the Neo series of mods force more voltage into the laser, so that it will read more discs, faster, yet the laser will die faster. other than that its crap media thats the problem.
ritek arent better than princo in any way. period. buy both discs and look at the back..... you'll see.
access times would be the laser, burn, media or dust on the lens/phyiscal problems etc...
