original games are pressed, forget the exact method or whatever (its in a thread in this section i believe) but its about 50% more reflective (so 150% that of a dvd-r).

a dvd-r is a direct copy so the original and a dvd-r should be the same, no?
its the reflectivity/the ability of the laser to read the data, not the data itself......(i forget my point, but you get the idea)

ok my friend got me this backup, Its a full DVD-R version believed to be on a Verbatim DVD-r. I dont know what speed he had burned at(has anyone got a good suggested speed 4 burning PS2 DVDS) but the other dvd-r backup i collected(tony hawks4) works fine, Anyway i watch the story etc. etc then just after the first save point when you go back outside you get about 2 minuites of play out of it and either:
I get a big box in the middle of the screen saying LOADING !!!
or i get a cannot read Vice city DVD in drive(so if i press open) the next message changes to
Drive door open please close the draw
so when i do this i get ANOTHER message saying:
Incorrect disk(or somthing simular)
anyways if anyone knows what the prob could be
or could it have just been a bad image that my friend downloaded
even if i just stay in one area i still get the same prob after about 2 mins !!
CHEERS PS2NEWZ !!!!!
i bought a copy of vice city, and mat hoffman 2 dvd silver, gta vc froze like that and nothing would happen, mat hoffman wouldnt load the level and only had a corrupted sound file... so i turned the white cog till (if ur facing the ps2 opposite the side of the disc try) it was about 15-30 degrees left (the hole), mat hoffman loaded, and WORKED LIKE A CHARM WITH NO PROBS!! and vice city, it was a bit rusty (dirt at the back), 2 mins. after gameplay, gave me an error, i ejected, injected, then it worked GREAT and i played for over 30 mins.
hope this helped ya and i didnt bother reading any of the other posts! LOL!
I have used Vice City to test DVD-R media, but not necessaruky conclusively. My 2x burns have played with Pioneer, Verbatim, and Apple media fairly well. I have recieved the problem reading error only once, and it was with a Pioneer. The Pioneers are more expensive than Verbatims and have never given me any other errors. Has anybody used these much?
Anyway, the laser is working its butt off to play this game. Being paranoid this makes me worry that I'm putting tons of wear on my laser. Wondering if the original is the way to go. This has been mentioned a little but I thought I'd ask again what people think about this. And how much are replacement lasers if they die. Is it easy enough to install 'em? ANybody out there replaced theirs?
mine occasionally gets the error reading GTA vice city dvd, but that goes away after a few seconds.
not sure what brand. TDK I think.
Where is this "white cog" and how do I adjust it? What is it's function? Will it affect other games after I adjust? Thanx in advance.
Sometimes my laser is louder when i load data from backups. Vice City constantly streams data to generate all that is just beyond the horizon. My laser goes absolutely insane loading during Vice CIty game play. Anyone stopped to listen to that? It sounds like the laser does more work during 2 minutes of Vice City than one hour of other games.
If i listen to the laser playing a GTA original, its working, but not so loudly. I'm thinking that Vice City will be the death of my laser and I think I'm going to break down and only play the original. Somebody tell me that I am silly for doing that.
I don't think I am but I would love to be proven wrong. Vice City is a brilliant game, I feel good about the idea of supporting the developers, and if I used the hard copy I could feel fine about wreaking havoc for hours and hours without worrying about my poor laser.
