Can anyone Help :GTA VC seriously wrong

I have a uk Version7 Magic2 modded ps2 i only had it about 2 weeks i bought it as a premod so i dont really want to open it up !!

ok my friend got me this backup, Its a full DVD-R version believed to be on a Verbatim DVD-r. I dont know what speed he had burned at(has anyone got a good suggested speed 4 burning PS2 DVDS) but the other dvd-r backup i collected(tony hawks4) works fine, Anyway i watch the story etc. etc then just after the first save point when you go back outside you get about 2 minuites of play out of it and either:

I get a big box in the middle of the screen saying LOADING !!!
or i get a cannot read Vice city DVD in drive(so if i press open) the next message changes to

Drive door open please close the draw
so when i do this i get ANOTHER message saying:
Incorrect disk(or somthing simular)
anyways if anyone knows what the prob could be
or could it have just been a bad image that my friend downloaded

even if i just stay in one area i still get the same prob after about 2 mins !!

i think you will find this is a common problem which is a major topic on a lot of forums. I have a backup burned onto verb, and suffer the same problem, stops loading at different places, got upto the boat scene , and that is it, please insert vc dvd. tried different media, used nero and prassi to reburn it at 1x, no difference, Cant offer any solution, but hold my hand up and join you in the frustration.

i think it could be a bad image coz silly things happen like shit collision detection :eg.

you are driving and you hit a wall you cant even SEE, it also appears that you should be able to keep going but the game says theres a wall but its not visable ! ! !

I hope it is just the image i have only had my ps2 for 5 mins ??!!

anyone tried this on apple media? I am suffering the same issues with verbatim dvd-r, think Im going to reburn on apple, then if that doesnt work---**** it, i will go buy it.

careful with that idea, b/c many have said the originals play the same as the DVD-R, with the same loading mess-ups and whatnot. This is what I have only heard however.

If folks are actually reporting problems with the original, then I'd suggest renting it from BlockBuster or somewhere first.

This could turn out to be a major embarassment for the publisher, especially if they're forced to issue a recall...

well balto thats what I have been reading about- mainly slow downs and loading messages.

we'll have to see what the masses say about vc.

Might help to know what "release" you folks have to help narrow things down a bit for those having problems...
