I've been reading about how some of the rips out there have been killing the lasers in your ps2's...

80% of my games are rips. I play PS2 for ~1.5 hrs per day. I've got my fingers crossed.

My question: Does the type of modchip affect the fate of the laser?

Yes it does. Any Neo chip will eventually kill your laser because it sends too much voltage to the laser.

Isn't DMS 3 the best for your system though? At least that's what the DMS 3 team says on their site....

Anything besides a neo is best for your system. Of course they are going to say that about their chip. It is kinda like how modchip.ca says that the messiah 2 is a magic 3 clone
