Hello everyone, I've got a problem with my TDK VeloCD 40x12x48x CD RW Drive. I run WinXP Pro on my computer. It does not run at the specified speeds, but i know for a fact that my computer can handle the fast speeds. The problem is that it turned DMA off and put it on PIO mode. This happened because Windows Xp automatically turns DMA off after so many errors. The TDK website said that I can't get DMA back unless i uninstalled the drive. I uninstalled it from the device manager and unhooked it from the computer. Still, i cannot get DMA enabled, i've played with BIOS settings and everything i know. Is there anything i can do to get DMA back??!?!?!??!?!??! Thank you for your time and help.

P.S. - if i may have forgotten any needed details, just ask and i'll help you out

PIO mode shouldn't be an issue and actually may be more stable. How is it that you've determined that the drive isn't functioning at the specified speeds, plus what burning application are you using?

As for the DMA setting, that would be done in Windows | Control Panel | System | Device Manager settings for the IDE contoller.

it burns fine, the problem is reading and ripping, before it turned PIO mode on i could rip music cd's at around 40x toward the end, now the thing won't hit above 10x when ripping throughout the entire cd (i'm using musicmatch jukebox 7.5) Also when its reading it kinda spins up and slows down, spins up, slows down, whereas when it was in DMA mode it would continuously spin. It's not that big of a deal because i'll probably reinstall windows xp again and DMA should be enabled then (i'm not reinstalling because of this, i just do it every month) Thanks again.
