is it OK if i burn backup images at 4X? or is that too fast? will it decrease the life of the ps2 if i use dvd-rs burned at 4X? i have 4x dvd-r's, and im thinking 1x or 2x is better, but waiting 2 hours for a disc is awfully long...

Burning at 4x is fine. Go for it.

You just have to try it. If it works, good for you. The real issue is whether your media truly burns reliably at 4X with your drive. If it has real slow load times, then you're not getting a proper burn on that media--try a different speed or a different media next time.

If it ain't broke don't try to fix it! But, hell if you can tweak that bastard just a little bit more....hehehe.

    What Raist said

What sort of burner do you have? I have read the packaging of some 4x media that suggest only burning it at 4x and not anything less. I have many backups that are ALL burnt at 4x with no issues. I use Ritek G04's as my media and a Pioneer A05 as my burner.

ooh good...i have the same burner (pioneer ao5/105). it came with the v1.3 firmware already. I have mitsumi 4x dvd-r's. movies have all worked, but i didnt really pay attention to how long it takes to load. Xbox games are fine at 4x as well, although same thing there. i dont pay attention to how long it loads, as i always play from HDD.
Im just worried about making the laser work too hard or something, thereby decreasing the life of the ps2 by using 4x burned discs.
XG, FF7, & RK for life.

Yeah, if you have quality media, it really doesn't matter at which speed you burn or rip. I've used DVD Decrypter for ripping at max speed, as well as burning at 4x, and all the copies work flawlessly. I'm also using Ritek G04's, which anybody will tell you are pretty much the best DVD-R media that you can get. Supermediastore.com is having a sale on them now, 50x spindle for $47!
