I've got a V.4 PS2 with a messiah 2 pro, and a pioneer dvr-105 with 1.30 firmware. Atm, i've got "datawrite red top classic 4x speed" media, and although better than my last cheapo media, they still don't perform as well as i would like.

I backed up gta:vice city and the results aren't pretty....it takes over 10 mins to load, and the PS2 takes ages just to recognise the disk in the first place (probably also due to the fact I have a v.4 ps2). I've used Recordnow Max 4.5, making an image at the 'min' speed and writing to the media at 1x.

I know results the same as the original are virtually impossible to acheive, but I'd like it to load faster, and if people with v.4's could say what media they use that give good, clean, smooth, quick results, that would be great.

I've heard Ritek G04's are good, along with verbatim and tdk, but are they much better than the ones I'm using?
Shenmue 3 + Virtual Reality. Is there anything more perfect?

    Hi,

I like TDK and Ritek best.

I have a V4 also. I think you may need to adjust the "Cog Wheel". Do a search for details. My V4 had the same problem and got worse until I adjusted the cog wheel a few clicks and since then, it will read all dvd-r and silver just as fast as originals.

Hmm, sounds interesting. Does that focus the laser, as I think that might cause it to wear out quicker, but it's a genuinely appreciated piece of advice (im gonna try it anyway, even if it does wear out the laser). Thanks

Also, with most games it's pot luck whether the ps2 recognises them or not when i first put them in, and some games i've backed up take me to the "playstation 2" logo, then go back to the browser screen (with the memory card and disk icons). Im guessing this is simply a combination of the laser and disk quality.

my v4r loves verbatium and memorex, ritek is ok, but some games like silent hill 3 audio i s off a little, and tdk is slighty better... kingdom hearts would make a sound while loading, but verbatium and memorex play like originals.......

The cog adjustment was recommened by my installer. He didn't go into details, but just said the cog wheel "adjust" the laser. He did say though, that the "pot adjustment" will reduce the life and not to mess with it.

Let me know if you got it fixed?

Yeah, I will. I've first got to get a new fan for my PS2 cause it broke, and then i'll try that cog adjustment. It'll be in a few days.
