Yeah, Maxell are pretty crap.
Go for RITEK G05 (I use these; 2000+ games burnt with 100% success rate), Sony or Verbatim. Get -R, and try to get the 8x discs.
I bought Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8x from Rima.com. Haven't failed me yet.

yes Taiyo Yuden DVD+R's are the best you can get and are pretty cheap just go to www.pricegrabber.com, And this isn't coming just from me I know a guy whos in the media buisness that says its the best you can get
