So I had my PS2 fitted with a Matrix Infinity, powered it on, not a problem. Burnt an ISO I had on my PS2, fired it up, had the 'reading disc' message for 20+ mins, rebooted my PS2 to a lovely black screen!!!
I burnt the ISO using Nero 5, at the lowest setting (2x), onto RiData RiDisc 4x DVD-R (Believe they're RITEK G04's)
The PS2 is a V4, so the lazer has probably seen better days, but could a bad ISO be the problem???
Or am I better off ditching the backups and setting up a hard drive???
never heard of backup killing the modchip. i know that it can wear the laser lens out. now since you said you let it sit there in the dvd drive with the reading disc for 20+ min, you sure it is not the laser lens or maybe even bad burn.
The backups definitely could be at fault. Ridisc is e-net landfill material (meaning that they are using Ritek rejects and not real A-Grade Ritek). Nero 5 is WAY out of date, I would definitely upgrade. So there are a few other things it could be besides the laser.
