Backing-Up CodeBreaker –

DISCLAIMER: This post is not about piracy or warez. It's just for those people who have bought CodeBreaker and want to make a backup of it.
If you've got friends and family, you know you need to back up all your games. I tried loading CodeBreaker v9.0 on my HDD with HDLoader, but it just got lots of read errors and it didn't work. Then I tried making a copy of it on my computer but it took too long, again, because of the read errors. It would've worked fine but I was worried it was going to kill my nice Lite-On burner. CodeBreaker has a copy-protection system...I think it's SafeDisc (don't know which version). I'm not 100% sure, but it uses the same technique of purposefully inserting erroneous data on the disc.
NOTE: You can still make a 1:1 back-up of your CodeBreaker disc if you want to by using Alcohol 120%. It just takes a while.
A much better, and much more simple option, is that you just copy the SLUS file over to your pen drive or HDD. The file is named "SLUS_202.02" for the US version. Just copy that and rename it to something else. For example, if you have CodeBreaker v9.0, just rename it to "CODEBREAKER_9.0.ELF". Now you can just use your favorite ELF launcher to boot it. I use uLanuchELF as my launcher. How to install a launcher is out of the scope of this guide. Please browse the forums and find your answers.
So you have the following benefits:
- No need to carry around your CodeBreaker disc.
- You never have to eject your disc drive if you have HDLoader*. Set your PS2 to boot the CodeBreaker ELF or an ELF launcher. Then start up CodeBreaker, go into settings and change the "Auto Tray Eject" option to OFF. Select your cheat codes then press start. Since you already have the HDLoader disc inserted press X and you're all set. This is only true if all the games you own are compatible with HDLoader. Most of the ones I have are.
It's also possible to store the ELF file on your memory card, but the file is 2Mb so it takes up a lot of space. Since it's an ELF file and doesn't need any other files you can have it load however you want...
Before I had tried the method above, but it didn't work because I didn't change the file name. I left it as "SLUS_202.02", and it didn't work. But one guy on here said to change the filename and it WORKED! I thought I should just get this information out to those who want to safegaurd their $20 investment
. Personally I like CodeBreaker better than Action Replay MAX, since it has A LOT more cheat codes.
EDIT: On some versions you need to have a disc in the drive for it to load. (It can be any disc.) Others you can't have a disc in the drive. Use trial and error to figure out if you need to or not.
Have fun cheating...
