That all depends on your IDE controller. Most on-board chipsets typically only let you define the entire channel and not the individual devices attached to it. So, in your case, set the Secondary channel to PIO Mode Only as the Plex should be fine with that too.Originally posted by kormaster

In my case, I have a SiiG ATA-100 PCI plug-in controller as the on-board IDE chipset on the Asus P5A motherboard over in my dual-boot (98SE/XP Pro) burning box wasn't capable of doing ATA-100 to my HDs. The SiiG device drivers actually let me set the transfer mode for each individual device on the chain, which is a nice touch. As I never do a disc-to-disc copy between the Yamaha CD-R/RW and the Pioneer A03, the transfer modes can be different without having to worry about a conflict. Otherwise, make sure they're always set the same.
THanks Balto... It WORKED!!!
I set the setting to PIO ONLY and it BURNED!!!! WOOHOO!
Got a question about DVD-R medias... i know TDKS are expensive and one of THE best for PS2...
But they are expensive and I want cheaper media for Xbox/conventional burning.... Any suggestions and where to get it?
Cool. Glad to hear you're up and running. Charlie and LOD know PS2s, but the ol' sled dog knows his shit when it comes to PCs and their insides...

I ordered a spindle of 50 Meritline 2X white tops based on Kemikals2003's previous testing posted in this forum. $67 and change worked out to $80 some bucks shipped, but still cheaper than the Apples I was using. They also have TDKs on spindle there too. Kemeikals recommended the silver top 2x Meritlines, but I prefer to write on the white tops with a black Sharpie and not worry about bleed through. Read his review.
So far no problems burning at 2x and they boot and load just fine. The dye on the white tops is just a hair lighter than Apples and about the same as a Pioneer. Just make sure you get 2x certified disc regardless of brand...
Well i did 2 things, Installed WinXO SP1 Integrated and changed to PIO Mode, this worked for my burns (yay)
I havee had no problems.....till yesterday, i was ripping a dvd to a global image and i got my old friend "Hardware error" BSOD.
This happend so i rebooted and it worked the 2nd time round....dunno if it was just a fluke tho, I Hope so!
As far as DVD media I use Ritek unbranded silver tops. Less than 50 bucks for 50 of em, and I havent burned one coaster yet...

Interesting, I would not have thought of replacing a ATA100 cable with the older model. I have a TDK 32x10x40X drive and a DVD-r/-rw Cendyne DVR104 burner. The TDK as primary slave wont go into DMA, and the DVR104 comes up as PIO. I moved them around but just about given up. I will move the TDK to secondary slave and change out the cable to a ATA33/66 to see if this makes any difference.
A tech supp at TDK stated that some PCs wont' run DMA for some reason on some things. But my HD comes up as UltraDMA and I refuse to believe that a Intel 850MV mobo and P4 2.2 CPU wont run DMA on all devices if it is possible.
But seeing some posts here that DMA might be a bad choice for the DVD burner I will keep that in the back of my mind if anything weird happens.
My A04/104 works just fine on an ATA100 cable, UDMA 2, XP SP1 (FAT32). I burn my Verbatim DVD-R's (the best!) with the included oem sw (Veritas RecordNow DX).
I read somewhere that they recommended disabling the cd autorun in the registry (even though the sw has an autorun shield that is supposed to turn it off for you):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdrom]
"AutoRun"= 00
Just a thought....

There is a program called Tweak XP that may be easier for some in disabling the cd autorun function.
The program also has support for intel chipset with udma 66 this might help the guy two posts up. (hope its ok for XP sp1).
Oh yeah and it did optimize the speed of my reading dvd to 16x as it was only reading at a maximum of 8x.
