i need some help, whenever i try to burn a DVD with Primo i get a Blue Screen Of Death saying "Hardware malfunction please contact your vendor"

I know my DVDRW is ok cos Nero and others burn fine with it.

If anyone out there has a Pioneer 104, please tell me if youve had this problem and if you fixed tell me how.

    My PC Stats:

    Windows XP Service Pack 1
    Athlon 2200XP+
    Abit AT7 Ultra-ARU
    1.5GB DDR 2100 RaM (512 Crucial, 512 Corsair)
Pioneer 104 DVDRW (Settings: Firmware 1.33, Secondary IDE, PIO Mode 4/Ultra DMA, Master Drive, Attempted recording at 2x with 1x/2x DVD-R Mirror Media, 100/66 ATA Cable)
    Plextor 40x12x48x CDRW
    2x Seagate 80GB, 1x Maxtor 160GB, 1x Western Digital 120GB
    SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum Ex
Primo DVD (latest) With PxEngine Update

If no-one can help with Primo, perhaps someone knows another application that can burn .gi files?

    TIA

Change the cable on the 104 to a 40-pin ATA-33/66. An ATA-100 cable drove my A03 and Yamaha CD-RW nutz.

Check to see if SP1 whacked your APSI layer drivers. They should be v4.60 or better.

Nothing should be on that Secondary chain other than your 104 and the Plex (as a slave.)

Check your IDE channels in XP:

Control Panel | System | Harware tab | Device Manager button | IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

Right click - Secondary IDE Channel | Properties | Advanced Settings tab
Check the Mode setting for your secondary channel.

XP on my machine I'm running Device 0 (A03) at Multi-Word DMA Mode 2 and Device 1 (Yamaha) at Ultra DMA Mode 2

Don't know how well those Mirror Media discs are going to work either. Are they 2x certified?

Try new media----the one thing you can learn from searching on this board is that-------cheap media just doesn't cut it!!!! Try several and buy in bulk what works best with your ps2. Good Luck!!!

they are 2x certified, there not amazingly cheap (£2 per disc, think of it as $2 each).....

I checked all the other settings, ASPI fine, Plex is secondary slave, 104 secondary master, both are Ultra DMA mode 2.

I have only just installed SP1 to test (see if its something within windows itself), i will try later again tonight and let you all know.

P.S i would like to try that recordnow, anyone know where i can find it? Or anyone fancy sending it to me?

Let me know at badexecute@hotmail.com or on IRC, any Dal.Net server /msg Liquid-Neon

I don't think Ultra DMA Mode 2 will cut it for the 104. It supports PIO Mode 4 or Multi-Word DMA Mode 2.

Check through Control Panel | System to see how XP is handling your Secondary IDE Channel.

How do i change it to Multi-DMA Mode or PIO mode?

    Device manager says:

Device Type: Auto Detection (This box is disabled)
Transfer Mode: DMA If Avalible (I can chang ethis to PIO Mode Only)
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2 (I cant change this either)

It says that for both devices.....

Can you tell me how i change to the correct mode?

Liquid... I was having problems too, not the same, but other ones... I switched it to PIO only, and it has gotten much farther than before. Try it out. Balto is correct.

Just select it from the drop down box and click ok. You don't even have to reboot.

Just use the drop down selector to change the Transfer mode to PIO Mode only. Click Apply if it's there (I don't recall off hand) and then close out of Control Panel.

I personally do suggest you reboot your machine, especially any time you mess with hardware settings utilizing different device drivers - just to be safe and ensure you're starting fresh. Let XP reload the new settings and device driver and then off you go....

    Good luck this time, eh?
