105 Disc Read Error –
02-01-2003,03:56 PM
I have the DVD-RW disc that came with the drive and i've tried burning to it a few times with nero, but it always quit in the middle of it so now i am trying to erase it but nero says please insert a erasable disc, and RecordNow Max says "disc read error command:51 Nhxt Thing - 3, ACQ - 57 ACSQ - 00" I looked up this error in the help files and it means "cannot read table-of-contents" I was wondering if there was a way to remedy this problem. I have tried writing to the disc some more but it say please insert a blank or appendable disc.
Thanks.

If you began a write once and it crashed you may consider that disc a coaster. Once it starts the burn and crashes forget about it! use a new disc

DVD-RWs typically don't work in PS2s anyway, so don't moan the loss of that disc (unless you wanted to backup your PC hard drive...)

Oops! I didn't notice that you were using a DVD-RW.. Try formatting/erasing the CD

the reson i want this disc is because it does work in my ps2...anyway..i put it in and wrote some data to it with nero and then i could erase it and recognize it with recordnow max...it might also have something to do with the fact that the back of the box says not compatible with win2k server..which is what i'm running..i'm gonna change over to pro in a few days..thanks for yuor help guys.

Try PrimoDVD/RecordNowMax. If you don't have it, you can snag a copy of PrimoDVD for free. I forget the link, it may be posted here or on of the other PS2 forum sites. Whenever an RW (CD or DVD) would get hosed on my old system (it would lock up sometimes) Primo was the only one that could fix it. Just use the full erase form the Drive drop down list in the full application. It takes a while, but it will correct any botched TOC, etc. and allow for more reliable burns for use in that PS2. Eventually it will begin to stop working right in your PS2 if you keep doing just the quick erase.
Good Luck!

This surprises me Balto , as I have used plenty of dvd-rw on my ps2 ver 5 messiah and ver 7 magic3.0+
pioneer dvs-rw47cf 2x this is the one i like, as its 2x -rw
pioneer dvs-rw47b/u 1x no prob
optodisc k001 -rw 1x no prob sold here in aus as laser and imation brands (plenty of these around)
tdk 501 sak -rw 1x no problem
prodisc dvdrw 1x these don't work they are not a good disc anyway as the cut looks foggy on the dvd when finished ie. light and dark patches not precise like other discs. I believe that this brand in dvd-r format was one reason for upgrading to 1.21 firmware. old here in aus as digimedia (wont be buying anymore).
burner is an a05 1.21 firmware
no offence intended here just trying to enlighten others and myself ;-)

No offense taken, but the v5s don't represent the majority of units out there, plus it's a known fact that the poor low reflectivity of DVD-RWs really stress the PS2 laser (more so than DVD-Rs.)
Besides, I intentionally used the word typically just to placate v5 guys like you...

Hmmm, never thought too much about the stress on the laser as they seem to read as well as dvd-r , sometimes they appear to be better .
