You have to download an alternate ISO for PPC (it WILL usually say PS3 in the name). Actually, I guess you do not have to download an ISO, just easier by far if you do (see instructions at http://wiki.gitbrew.org/index.php/PS3:Linux for more information). It's largely a matter of personal preference I guess, because Ubuntu and all variants, Fedora, and Debian are all installable apparently, you could probably even do Slackware or OpenBSD if you felt so inclined (would not mess with Yellowdog, was not impressed with it at all). I like the KDE toolset (especially Krusader, so much like Total Commander it's not funny), so, I install Kubuntu. However, I don't login to KDE after the reboot, that would be a nightmare with the limited RAM, I switch to a console (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and type "sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop krusader firefox mplayer vlc qmmp" and also make that change that will make it use /dev/ps3vram as the main swap every time it boots up, then reboot. LXDE makes a fine light-weight desktop environment (when you have the KDE toolset pre-installed anyway), so, this works well for me. YMMV. Keep in mind I have a 3.15 PS3 so I have not tried this with CFW yet (I am planning to, since I can, but for now I cannot answer any CFW-specific questions you might have).
