This is just a rumor, but was posted by one of the top developers on the "Yellow-Dog Linux" forums, so there might be some truth to it.

Once I an confirm for a fact that Sony is planning on removing "Other OS" totally on the next firmware update v3.20, I move this thread to "Latest News".

Here is the discussion going on over at Yellow-Dog Linux forums:

    http://www.yellowdog-board.com/viewt...hp?f=19&t=7132

I wish I still had access to a kiosk machine I repaired the other week, as v3.20 is out for those machines already with 3D output, and I could tell if the "Other OS" was removed or not for sure then.

If Sony does this, then people will flame them left and right, and everyone will claim it is because of "Geohot's" crappy Linux hack.

Strange, the above link on YDL site has been removed.

Tons of other news sites are reporting it, but don't know if this means it has been confirmed or just total bullshit since the original source on YDL has been removed now.

I just talking regarding the fact he thinks the PS3 is 100% hacked on his blog. But really it is nothing more then way to get outside of Sony's "sandbox" on the "otheros" side. Does not help in much except to slowly map out how to maybe write a better GPU driver, which might have been possible on his version of PS3 which was running an older firmware before the GPU was totally locked out newer firmwares.

Xorloser made some real good steps in giving clear good code and tutorials to follow, whereas Geohot just brag to get media coverage.

well, the hypervisor is the core of protection system on the ps3. and the hack can circumvent it.

don't confuse a hack with a kitchen-sink solution that will allow you to run homebrew on ps3.

it's like independence exploit on ps2 - people might say it was not a 100% hack, because it didn't do much by itself.

Well, there is two hypervisor, the sandbox linux one and the gameos xmb one, Geohot's exploit works for the sandbox linux one because you can run unsign code during boot-up of the linux kernal.

It does not work on the GameOS. -- So Sony will most likely just remove Linux OS in future firmware, for sure to close the door.

time will tell but when gohot says somethings useful then its most definitely useful

for all we know it could be the system HV that the otherOS runs from
witch would be a damn good resin for Sony to remover the otherOS feature

nothing is known yet until system dumps of running memory is done witch to my knowledge hasn't been done yet

and if sony dose remove otherOS from the fattys then that will say LOADS about the hacks potential

i probably won't upgrade the fw version that my PS3 is running on once the v3.20 fw update comes out. i'm feeling optimistic that soon enough someone may finally crack the two hypervisors running both gameOS and otherOS.

its going to suck to not be able to go online to game or to browse without the v3.20 fw. i had to upgrade to v3.10 fw before in order to go online.

His last blog seems claims a bit more than just a better GPU driver, being able to decrypt selfs/pkg's. Also since then apparantly he's dumped GameOS. He has a pretty good CV (no issues for me beliveing him), so even though its not the way things used to be, if he wants to make headlines I'm not seeing the harm.
