Resolution in Debian v3 and MKV playing
Resolution in Debian v3 and MKV playing –
Hi, I just installed Debian v3 on my ps3 slim first time. It look like everything works properly.
I have problem with adjust resolution on my fullHD screen. When I get to the screen properties there is only one resolution to set (something like 1140x600). For now is any chance to get fullHD in linux? I have to install something or boot another linux version?
And I have one question about playing video on PS3. Some time ago I saw that on linux MKV video format can be played. It's that true? Or it's only future speculations?
in terminal, you can run ps3videomode to change resolution. just use control+alt+f1, login as root (password is ps3), stop gdm, ps3videomode -h, and the help screen should popup. there is somewhere to save the configuration, check another thread on that (cant remember). I believe I used '-v 42 -c' for my settings (1080p, fullcolor).
Playing MKV, in linux I either use totem or VLC (totem can't handle ordered chapters in seperate files (if it calls the opening theme from a seperate MKV, then it flips out..), and VLC is the same as in windows). in terminal, run aptitude as root (if your not logged into the computer as root, use su, then use aptitude) scroll around and find what you want there, and get all the gstreamer stuff (one of them works alongside totem, and will automaticly download codecs you need. not sure which one though lol) Although idk how well they will do on a PS3 lol, they will atleast run (I know for sure totem is there for sure, ive seen it in aptitude on debianv2, and later when I switched to ubuntu it was default)
