ok guys i just want you to know now that the install any distro was a sucess...im guna keep pushing this section to the max....so im guna let you know what the futre holds for psx users =)
1st: Thing to do:seen as graf has released his tools to making linux native my next guide will be how to resize vflash sections...install to the internal hdd and then how to get it all working =D
2nd: Will be how to get all your loved tools up and running on a native/external machine..ps3toolchain..ps1ght etc
3rd: Hopefully should be how to get the gpu driver working if everything works out right
you will have no doubt that all these guides will be written for those whom want to explorer the potentional of the ps3 via linux...i will make them as easy as possible for users who may be unsure how to do things properly without damaging there hardware but i must mention this...PSX-Scene is not responsible for any damage or "bricked" ps3's you do all these guides at your own free will....im going to implement methods to back up your files so if something does go wrong then it can be restored at a later date....
NOTE: THE GUIDE FOR RESIZING VFLASH AND CREATING NEW PARTITIONS TO HOME YOUR DISTROS WILL NEED YOUR PS3 TO BE FORMATTED!So best thing to do if you choose to do this is make a harddrive copy of all your files and stuff off the ps3 before even atempting the guide once its published...i give you these warning to save you loosing data which you want to keep...tbh this is the whole point of this thread =)
Right guys, ive been thinking and im going to open this thread so you guys can give me input for what you want...but please bare in mind im only one person so i'll try and get it done as fast as poss!but please leave some feedback to what you would like =)

guys this thread is now open for you guys to tell me what you think should be written up for your gain...feel free to suggest what you think should be done...=)
Why is this thread stickied?
because im just telling people what im upto guide wise...also i think its important to have a thread where user's who may struggle getting things done in linux...where they can request a guide to be written to make it easier for themselfs

Keep Up the good work George.
Only requests i have is figuring out why grafs updated work (kernel -e16db48) runs so slow and whats causing it. Also what the difference is between that one and kernel -8e49063. Doesn't the e16db48 use the RSX driver, therefore shouldn't it run smoother? I have both kernels in petitboot and even with lxde the e16db48 is very slow and unresponsive.
I still can't figure out a way to get full screen without the damn black borders. I'm using 720p and if i try any other res it just goes to a blank screen. I don't think that matters anyway, as it would still have the overscan borders no matter what resolution i choose in petitboot. I came across a guide not to long ago but it involved guessing work like "change x margin from 122 to 130 or something like that till it stretches out, so that may be different for everyone depending on their TV set up.
also getting the ps3 built in wifi going. Not sure if it's a pain in the ass and thats why no one has figured out a way to get it working, but if thats the case don't bother with it and I'm sure eventually something will come out.
edit: one more thing i remembered. would reising the vflash really have any added benefit to someone who uses a external HD solely for linux? Or is it more of an convenience for someone who wants linux directly on their internal ps3 hd? any added benefits? i read some comments on grafs development blog, and i worry that it might be too advanced for some users to grasp (myself included). I probably wont end up doing it, depending on if i feel like backing up my HD. But if there are advantages i may give it a go.
There you go george, mostly questions from me and not really any guide requests.
Keep up the good work george.
i use a wireless keyboard and mouse on my ps3...are you having problems with your wireless usb device?if so please state the make and model and i will investigate for you =)

answer to third paragraph:i will take a look into the wifi drivers and get back to you on that =)
answer to paragraph four:of course there is advantages...your current set up is ran off usb and usb cant match a direct sata link so the whole system will be alot more responsive as its internally stored...also given the problems with the ps3 usb that wont be doing it any favours...i am writting the guide so its user friendly for those who may want to give this a try in the future...i will cover all the "hot" zones and make sure you know what your doing so you will be happy with the end product not being upset if your system breaks. with all this work atm you have to understand you do it at your own risk as these are the development stage, not the finish product...but the risk is only as great as the guide you follow...if you follow a guide which is badly written and doesnt expect the unexpected then your screwed but i will make it so anyone who wants to try it can be in the knowledge before they start =)
port xbox 360 wired pad to work on ps3?
PS3 Slim v3.55 + CFW Kmeaw - 320HDD + 500gig WD passport
i meant to make a fresh install without a usb keyboard but wireless one i havent tried that cause i dont own a wireless keyboard yet one of my friends have.So the question in a more clear way : Can we make a fresh install of linux(never have installed it before)using a wireless keyboard on a 3.55/3.41 ps3?i have never tried that so if you can answer it woold be good if it needs a guide on how to use it it would be a nice addition to your guides.if you dont know for sure or cant test it i will ask my friend who has wireless keyboard to lend it to me so i can test it(it will take time since he is away now).
p.s. : you know if graf will continue his work it is a shame to lose one(if not the No1) of the best hackers/devs of the ps3,although he should do what he thinks its best for him and even if he quits(which i hope/believe not) no one should start doing to him what they do for other devs.So here is my answer to graf too although he wont read it here but its ok im sure all the members of the scene with a brain will support his decision.Good Luck Graf.
