To Whom This May Concern,
As long as I can remember I have been a fan of Sony branded products, but I think that this new removal of features or forcing you to upgrade is outrageous. I donít play many games, but I do use OtherOS (running Yellow Dog Linux) a lot. When I first heard it was being removed I couldnít believe it! A feature that made me choose the PS3 over the XBOX 360 was its ability to run Linux. So I shrugged it off and said I just wonít buy any games that require the new firmware. Needless to say here I am now with the same four same games I had two years ago.
Now enter my problem. Iíve watched a lot of demo footage of Battlefield 3 and I think itís the best looking FPS since UT3. Of course I donít play a game solely on looks. Anyway, I sent an email to Sony asking them if I would have to upgrade to play the game while at the same time losing OtherOS (note: Iíve got a lot of time and energy put into OtherOS and I will not lose it no matter the cost.) Sony responded and in broken English with all sorts of errors in the response told me I will have to upgrade.
The old options used to be (1) Upgrade (2) Keep OtherOS and now we have a new option (3) Use a custom firmware. While most people associate a custom firmware for piracy I would be using mine strictly to use a game I paid for because Sony wants to remove a feature I paid for. While itís a viable option I am not going to risk something I saved up for over a very long time. I will keep OtherOS, I wonít upgrade or use a custom firmware. Iíll just buy the PC version of the game.
Sony just lost a customer and EA lost a sale due to Sonyís policies.
