Ok, talking to Kmeaw here is what everyone needs to know and has been asking about on the installers bootos and or Asbestos. The New BootOS is not ment for IMAGES!!!

AsbestOS installer 1-1.5 are installers for Lv2 version 9. They patch the ps3 lv2 to read the linux kernal that he has in the pkg of AsbestOS. This bin file is a updated version of Maracans ASBESTOS loader from 3.41. This Asbestos version 1-1.5 will load images off of your HDD or external. I havea list below to show you.

Asbestos installer 1-1.3: only reads images on internal HDD
Asbestos installer 1.4-1.5 read images on external and internal

The New Bootos will read images, only on external HDD it is supposed to read on internal, however I have not been able to make the new BootOS read from internal. The New BootOS is not ment for IMAGES!!! The New BootOS is ment to be installed permenatly NAITIVELY on a pre-partitioned space. You can use the installer to partion a drive, but it is recommended to partion an EXTERNAL or USB PEN drive before you use BOOTOS. BOOTOS is made for NAITIVE INSTALL just like the old otherOS days. I myself have been working on trying to get Ubuntu to install. However I have not been able to yet. The new BootOS loads a Kernal from online ppc64 kernel from debian website. Then it loads a kboot.conf from kaos website and that is why user name is ps3 and password is ps3 after install.

So for a recapp New BootOS installs LINUX NAITIVE ON A USB PEN DRIVE OR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. You might be able to install on Internal if you can find a way to partition it correctly However I would suggest that you do not use internal HDD incase of a mistake.

If you like the images then Yes you must boot from AsbestOS 1.5 or below.

If you like the idea of naitive Linux then BootOS 2.0-2.1.

I hope this awnsers some of your questions and helps If you have any other questions please send me message, I am trying to get ubuntu to boot from the installer. If anyone is interested in this please feel free to get ahold of me

no, netboot isn't supported. but you can install graf's kernel once you have debian up and running.

Yes netboot is supported, You must have a ppc64 linux Kernel, Although I am still working on getting mine to work correctly. Once you have installed lv2v9 and BootOS then there will be a kboot.cfg file on your Internal HDD. In the root directory of HDD. If you want to change the net installer there you can, I have tried this is were I have not succeeded, I wanted Ubuntu to get that working you need to change the Kboot.cfg.

Here is the Ubuntu PS3 ppc64 kernel if anyone wants to try.
    http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dis...c64/netboot64/

Here is lucid, Jaunty, Hardy, and Maveric are all here under the dists, just find a ppc64 kernel
    http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports...rpc64/netboot/

this is Dapper I thought there were links to lucid,Jaunty,Hardy, and Maveric, but I cannot find them, If you got the link from the old Images someone should post that ubuntu install link here. I am talking about the link to the netinstaller on the Img file from the Ubuntu.img that Kmeaw released, with the 10x1 GB images. If anyone has the ubuntu installer for that post link to the kboot.cfg or the link to the ubuntu net installer from the .img Please. Then we should be able to install ubuntu on the bootos.
