I know what you mean, he claimed it could be done but then just vanished with no release. Its all i could think of regarding being able to keep other OS in relation to the previous post.
oh there was also PS3.ProxyServer.GUI but i never used otherOS

So has anyone come across anybody working on this? P3nguin D3v team ?
you sir, are an idiot. with nothing but games on his mind.
with linux you can turn ps3 into a box that would do a lot of things - a media center, or a fileserver for your local network. or a torrent downloader, whatever you can think up.
with an opportunity for a full rsx access it would be even more interesting.
now that we can analyze the system, we can attempt to restore other os loader, and maybe even patch it to run linux under different rules.
do you have a ps jailbreak? well, how much is it? And, where did you buy it? i want to buy one there days, but i am afraid of it.
What makes you say this? Because of the unreleased GeoHOT firmware or do we have someone who can show/prove this?Quote:
i believe otheros is still there for ps3s that had it (not sure about slims) but it is just hidden from the menu.
Is there any option to reset back to the original factory (out of the box) settings for the ps3?Quote:
how would we be able to get it back?
i mean if it is just a hidden menu then yeah, but what if SONY removed it completly? downgrading a FW shouldn't work since other OS has been in the console since day one, so having it in a FW is pointless, unless you make a CFW and someone with an old PS3 with other OS could somehow extract the whole PS3 layout (idk) or something
If not, it would be interesting to know how Sony mark files on the hard disk for deletion/overwrite (ie. If during the 3.21 update, the OtherOS was flagged for deletion, or simply flagged to be hidden). If it was flagged only to be hidden, we are talking a few bytes of data probably.
What is the filesystem anyway? I'm guessing the disk is FAT32 but can we recover/get a filestructure from this if its plugged into a PC?
The reason I ask and I don't know if it helps or not, but I still have the original hard disk in my ps3 with which I have installed game updates and each new firmware that has been released but never ever deleted a single file, reformatted or anything of the sort since buying the unit.
Its quite possible that there may still be files there somewhere among the filesystem that could help *unless* the firmware updates overwrite each other every time a new one is released?
If on the other hand firmware updates each install to a separate file/folder keeping the file system intact, we may be on to something...
