What keeps slim from using SCE otherOS: 2 lv1 syscalls
Why marcan didn't just rebuild lv1 and VSH and restore SCE otherOS: DMCA
Emulating the two lv1 frame buffer calls via inserting old symbols and using pointers to the new calls after modifying the first 13 bytes of buffer descriptor puts otherOS on the slim. Why nobody has done it is because people publishing CFW only want glory among software pirates..which is convienent because their skill levels only allow them to use other peoples work via command line..
It's actually a group of 6 naturally occurring minerals that come apart into fibers.
Handling asbestos will cause no health problems. Inhaling the fibers on the other hand can cause lung cancer, Asbestosis, cancer of the belly or gut and Mesothelioma. I know I handle it every day at work.;)
Sorry for the off topic post. I've just been waiting for the moment.:D
We dont want OtherOS we want Linux running on the PS3 in GameOS mode. (EDIT: and FYI its been done, but their making it usable for the end users)
Sorry for that, should have been more clear, I knew it only counted for inhaling it. But still, you enlightened me with more information than I already knew :)
well maybe your right about that. the dual boot thing spoken about makes it run in lvl1 and needs a different loader because it now uses the gameos loader which is lvl2. however it can make bootable since it is formatted in linux filesystem, it would require some changes though. YDL being a bad distro for newbies , i dont know about that, it has support for powerpc cell architecture , ubuntu and debian which are more or less the same and dont have proper cell support yet.
YDL is so bad for noobs that SCE endorsed it to it's end users and YDL were doing distribution of units with it preinstalled..
Package management UI is just the same as Ubuntu, if not better, and it's got all the cell commits in it's kernel..
Debian and Ubuntu are nice name drops in generic geekery though..
A Linux that handles 100% of the PS3 hardware and without cfw possible?
As playing games is not necessary my hobby, but computers are, i am searching for a few weeks for a pertinent information / description of the process of installing Linux on my PS3. Until know I've found nothing usable for my configuration: PS3 Slim CECH-2504A with original FW3.55 (I think it had 3.50 as I buyed and I've upgraded to 3.55 by the first use)... I don't think that trying to find a method to have Linux on my PS3 is in any way illegal, I'm just wanting to take advantage of the whole performance of my buyed device. In the same time, I don't want to risk to brick my PS3 by installing a CFW in order to put Linux on it, if it's not absolutely necessary. As adviced here on the forum and on some others, I've been waiting for updated informations in this direction, but it seems to take a very long time, much longer than for releasing CFW for backup games capabilities... Is it so complicated to do something also for the Linux installation (I'm asking as a complete novice in this domain), or it's just not a priority for the majority?
