Yes you are right but not sure if I can release it here as zip file. I will check if I can open a new project on git and post the code as repository.
You can do both.
But I personally prefer git.
Edit: Remember to use git-hacks, so github\gitorious won't remove it.
I'm working on a version that allow to select between 4 different partition size. When I'm done I will release the souce on git-hacks.
Just tried the above, no difference. When I use run.pkg it just panics and sits there. If I power off and on and try running "Run petitboot" it just panics again :(
Hi D4T what for a console, firmware are you using?
Have you try to use the udp_fprint_client to check if the intsallation was done without errors?
This tools was tested on Slim 120GB 3.55 MFW.
If you already have played with the other vflash tools, please format the ps3 hdd with a workstation to make sure that after reinsert into your PS3 it will recognize a new hdd. Dont forget that after doing that the PS3 Slim need to reinstall the Firmware.
Copy Step1.pkg, Step2.pkg, run.pkg,hdd_partition_table.bin, dtbImage.ps3.bin on the root of a USB flash drive.
Let the USB flash drive connected for all installation process in the PS3 DONT DISCONNECT.
Install Step1.pkg and run it. After this step the PS3 will reboot and ask to format the HDD do it.
Install Step2.pkg and run it. After this Step the PS3 will reboot and ask you to insert the USB controller via cable. Do it and press the PS button.
Now install run.pkg and run it (it needs min. 20 sec. before you see petitboot booting).
I have the new version done that allow to select the partition size 10,20,40,60 GB, but will post it if I see that the first version is working for the most guys.
CECHM03 with 3.55 Kmeaw
Maybe my model has the wrong NAND? I probably should of researched this earlier tbh :( apologies if so.
I did erase the drive however I do not have the hdd_partition_table.bin file?
CHECM03 should work. Create an empty file on your USB flash drive and rename it as hdd_partition_table.bin.
Well FINALLY, i got it to install fully. I re-downloaded the debian iso and everything seems to be installing fine now without any freezes :) I'll keep you guys updated.
Just want to give an update on my progress...
I did mange to install gentoo internally on the ps3 using the chroot method. I just used the ps3 debian iso (thanks cookie) to create the partition and then formated it using the mkfs command (alt+2 to get a terminal). From there, I just followed the gentoo guide (using chroot) to install.
Tips/Issues I ran into:
1. Run the Network setup and disk setup from the Debian installer to see disks/network
2. Make and activate a swap partition before attempting install (emerge was killed without it)
3. Try to have a vmlinux (the kernel) already compiled to boot from (trust me...it takes ages in the chroot enviroment and locks up)
If anyone is interested...I can post the kernel I just compiled (but I don't know how to post any modules so you may have to compile those once you boot up)
