Ok i dont understand why everybody is having problems because i downloaded the alternate iso, burned it at max speed on a cdr, and it installed first try on a 16gb flash drive. I also set the flash drive up for 2 partitions, one for ext / and the rest(2.5gb)as swap. Its god awful slow on a flash drive but it does work without a hitch.

Also Charlooch i dont think it has anything to do with your old installs you had. I used asbestos and all i did was delete both asbestos and the lv2 patcher i had from the xmb then installed the files in the first post to start from scratch. Loaded up the bootos from the first post, let it do its thing, and then when i got back to the xmb i ran the new lv2 patcher in the first post. I never did anything else and it worked perfect on the first try.

Im getting ready to try and install it on my ps3 hdd now and i will report back as soon as i finish it up, hopefully with success. I would have reported last night but i had to download the linux image and my internet is REALLY slow. I also used the torrent download because my internet likes to disconnect on me alot then reconnect and the torrent can pick it right back up after losing connection, its a shame internet explorer or firefox cant do that.

Hey George. I downloaded the ubuntu iso that worked for you and burned it. Selected install and it still freezes. I don't know what else to do. Tried everything.

Ive never had Linux installed before, so that (at least for me) cant be the actual problem with hanging at the installation process.

Barnhilltrckn are you trying to install it to the ps3 internal hdd? Maybe you meant external but that's what I read, anyways if you manage it let me know. Currently I have the vflash resized and repartitioned ready for linux, but the problem is all the standard install kernels use the $ony driver, and I'm not sure how to recompile an installer kernel to install with grafs vflash driver in it. I have no problems compiling a standard kernel, but I'm not sure to to create a custom installer kernel. Anyone know?
STOP! Before you ask questions... READ the first post! RTFFP = Read The F*cking First Post
Yes, A 3.55 "jb" (cfw) is available, no >3.55 "jb" or cfw yet.
Yes, A 3.55 downgrade is available. But not to lower than stock firmware! (What it came with)
No >3.55 downgrade is out there yet.

Thanks a lot for this tute, very helpful!

I feel a bit retarded asking this though.. How do we boot Linux now? I've installed the Ubuntu image you linked to in the first post, but when I go back to LV2 patcher and select Linux and then select it from Petitboot, I get dumped into a shell saying it timed out..

Am I missing something completely obvious here? When I plug in or out the external it's on, I see 2 options pop up in Petitboot, "Linux" and "Old". I've tried both of them and they do the same thing. The install options are there too, but it just tried to install again if I click them. BootOS just installs itself again if I try that..

    Any ideas? Thanks!
oralphie: Will this allow chuck norris to play backups??? PLZ HELP!!!

Still nothing on my end. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling bootos/lv2. Used different burning programs/speeds.Different linux distros fedora/YDL. Still hangs at booting install then eventually turns black.

not to fear charlooch...as soon as ive got 1 last thing tested i should release a solution which takes abit of knowledge of a debian distro for the pc but should get you up and running =)
