Beside this, i dont understand what does this Bootos do? It install something somewhere, but no idea what.
Anyone can help me with these?
(thanks for the devs for bringing back Linux)
K, I never used linux ever in my life, let alone on my ps3 before and I thought I should might as well start trying now.
So if I install linux, will I be able to use it like a regular os (install vlc, play mkv files) or install browser attach, usb keyboard and mouse)
oh and if I do this, will it be like a installed pakage, so if I want to start up linux I just goto games and press x on the Linux package?
sorry guys had a really busy day making a working back up of my ubuntu image...ive now tested it and will present it to the world once these uploads sites stop telling me its guna be 6 hours for less than a gig!!! but i can confirm this method will get you up and running =) (slims included!)
No worries about the wait George. Thanks for all the help. How about once everything is installed, do we put grafs kernel packages on a usb or external HD?
I have successfully followed the guide and have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my kmeaw 3.55. I also had the same problem many of u are while installing and i have a few things to add to get the installation much smoother.
1. Use the Ubuntu 10.10 ALTERNATE download. i used the desktop version and had the freezing/hanging problems that most seem to be expierencing.
2. I personally used DVD decypter(freeware) and burned it at 2.4 times speed i think its best to burn at low speeds from personal past uses of any linux.
3.Put the dang linux CD in the ps3 BEFORE u run lv2 patcher and make sure that the ps3 detects it by going to video in the xmb and it should display "data disc".
4. BE PATIENT! i spent a total of 12hours on the installation yesterday just trying to get it to install. it may take a couple tries.
4.Idk if it matters, but i installed my linux on a 4GB thumbdrive that i had formatted Fat16, maybe hdds should be fat32? not sure.
Also i wanted to give my praise to the geniuses graf, Braddah man george for the tutorial(good job), and everyone in the scene keep up the good work!
Very well xD , I Installed Yellow Dog on PS3 HDD
Thats not our problem, I guess. I cannot speak for the others, but I used the

There must be something else wrong.
used the alternate ps3 ubuntu 10.10 iso and the install is working now, good job george
Lets brainstorm here...
The people who got it working, have you had linux installed before? i had the 10 ubuntu img files from pshomebrews guide and asbestos 1.5. I noticed when uninstalling asbestos and going into multiman that the 10 ubuntu img files were still there so i deleted them. Also while in multiman i notice under one of the flash menus a LV2Kernel thats in red, i left that alone.
My guess is maybe some files from the other installation are still left over and causing the boot process to not run?
