Yea, i used lxde with the old ubuntu img files. Only problem is i'm not seeing anything show up cept for the ubuntu desktop background lol. I hear the sounds, just nothing shows up. I notice though at bootos i have two options
"linux" and "old"
didn't try old yet, but linux seems to hang. Was i supposed to install to the ps3 internal HD? or edit the partitions in some other way?
also thanks for the tips for the graf deb installs cookie
I'll let ya know how it goes.

OpenCL?? –

ok i'm trying to install opencl on my system and i only get errors.
im running ubuntu with asbestos 1.5 on a waninkoko firmware.
i've tried the iso from ibm but you need red hat for this.
I've found a "custom" opencl "driver" for ps3 but there is some files missing and it wont work.
And i know its possible coz i've seen a video of guy running it on ps3 CFW with pyrit tool.
if someone could give me some hint i'll be very happy
And sorry if its not related to the post but its still linux related anyways.

just plug it back in once it starts booting. I have a ps/2 to usb dongle with and adapter for keyboard and mouse that goes into one usb, and my external HD in the other. i eventaually wnat to get a powered usb ports which adds a few more ports. You can find some really cheap ones on monoprice. It's legit, i get all my cables from them.
Back on topic, im downloading grafs kernel to my ps3 as we speak. I still can't get over how slow this is right now lol. if i see not much of an improvement i'm just going to go back to the ubuntu 10 image files version. Even with lxde this is slow as hell.

hey guys, im glad to see this coming to light abit....the best thing to do is to mount ps3vram as a swap that increases speed also install lxde...also if u just did a standard partition settings your swap is only 300mbs in size which could be better....take a look at this thread
Installing Ubuntu on PS3 - PSHomebrew
given the problem with the ehci on usb wiv petitboot on slims its a major problem...but graf is soon releasing a method of running petitboot off vflash and also modding another section of vflash to hold the actual install...thus will also improve things greatly but the sad truth is, what really needs to be done is a gpu driver coded up which would really improve the graphical loading/performance speeds. also what should be looked at is utilizing the cell be...its pretty sloppy the way sony did it in the first place but luckily with devs who wanna push the boundries kickin about all will fall into place...im glad you guys are up and running...give yourself a pat on the back =)

by george i think you got it! :dance
I didn't think we had to do that swap tweak on this. Did it on the old linux i had from thr guide you linked. Now i got 544 mib of swap compared to the 300 before. only thing that seems odd is memory. says im usuing 67.0 mib of 103 mib. That seems low compared to what i was getting on the pshomebrew special ubuntu version. who knows though!
I still didn't get grafs debs installed yet... you know what it like trying to get megaupload going on the ps3? kept getting script errors. Thought it would be easier to just download them right to the ps3. I don't have any other clue how else to move them from my real pc to the ps3 , tried usb, cd but they didn't mount.
Thanks again for all the help/info

also when checking out disk utility i have ps3 internal HD unmounted (UFS), since i'm using my external for linux. Would i be better off also mounting that? or is it fine to leave it unmounted.

if u install grafs kernel your memory issues will disappear matey...he sorted it to use the full memory. what do u mean it wont mount? explain how your trying to do it...also you gotta be root to mount/dismount things u know
