I'm surprised nobody has mentioned or asked about Graf Chokolos new codez to re-size the vflash and have linux on the ps3's hard drive yet. Dual boot sounds pretty cool. has anyone tried his stuff out and figured out the flow of what happens when and how to install it manually? There is documentation here but it is very simple.

There is some stuff here but it seems like it may not be up to date or it has extra older info included.

Some of the code requires psl1ght and some looks to require the ps3 dev compiler 'ppu-gcc'. I'm going to try my hand at compiling the list of items and seeing where it takes me.

Does anyone else have any success/work-in-progress stories about this route?

Yea. It works really well when it works, though I've had some issues with booting on occasion.

If you're on 3.55 (Must be a CFW w/ patched LV1), then I have some pre-compiled packages for you: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

I've also included the doc that was on the git as a howto, and graf's petitboot image.

Hey mike, i found your tools on grafs blog a few days ago and posted them in the linux distro thread. I gave you credit though and didn't try and pawn them off as my own. I think xPreatorianx already tried them, so it wont work for him, also to clarify it IS only working on slims, correct? that could explain all the problems with the fats.

I'm not entirely sure. Those may have actually been messed up because graf said they probably won't work. There is an updated version that is non compiled in the linux thread. I haven't tried those yet as I don't know if I can compile them.

Also if those don't work on PHAT then you will have to do a linux install and do it that way.

They should work on any console that has a 16mb flash (nand/nor - last 256 was CECHG). In one of your other posts, you said you have a CECHK? That has a 16mb NAND and should work. If it doesn't can I get the output from udp_printf_client?

Also, there are large waits for some of the LV1 calls to complete, so try waiting to see what happens.

So is this basically ready to be used?

Because OtherOS could be a massive boon to my development work - and it sucks having to downgrade to 3.15 just to be able to boot OtherOS.

Both Graf's utils, and BootOS/LV2Patcher will work and run linux nicely.

It will not work with a current OtherOS partition and will possibly delete it (I am not sure, but better to be safe than sorry). He was working on getting it to work nicely with an OtherOS partition, but then he got TRO'd again.

Personally, on my slim, I have issues with petitboot hanging on loading a kernel, so I'm using BootOS and an external HD for now. His utils are pretty much a leadup to a new custom HV/FW for linux.

It's pretty damn good, it's not dual-boot yet, but running a gameos app or two isn't that irritating to get linux running. The biggest thing is to make sure you have grafs kernel installed and it'll run nicely.

Yes, A 3.55 "jb" (cfw) is available, no >3.55 "jb" or cfw yet.
Yes, A 3.55 downgrade is available. But not to lower than stock firmware! (What it came with)
No >3.55 downgrade is out there yet.

Yeah his kernel and add ons are nice. He gave us quite a bit. We can make internal partitions and boot to them if we want. As soon as noob proof tutorial is released on how to do that we will have the return of otheros. After all the great work Graf did I think it is time for us to lift that burden off his shoulders. He doesn't deserve to go to jail.
