I don't have a PS3 so I can't play around with this. But I think this is how its done. If I'm wrong please correct me.![]()
Get Fedora here:
http://fedora.redhat.com/
-Click Downloads and get PPC
Then here is the Sony side with a tutorial:
http://www.playstation.com/ps3-openplatform/index.html
Is this it?
How many bogus?
Do cat /proc/cpuinfo if you don't know how.
I tried downloading the ppc files off of the fedora site but damn... I was thinking that I only had to download only a few files. The site shows that I would need to get 6 iso files at 700mb each.
Not only would it take forever for me to get them since i'm on dialup, but I would have no idea how to even begin. I think I'll wait for the scene to release a guide or something. Not much for me to test here.
So, wait, what happened to Yellow Dog Linux on PS3?
Yes, I know YDL has been a port of redhat for years on end, but still?
That video could very well be fake. As far as I've read, yellow dog could still be the distro Sony will use: http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/ne...06-10-17.shtml
According to QJ.net, any distro that has a PowerPC build will work...

Fedora is a plausable OS for the PS3
Well if you guys have seen that youtube video, fedora on the PS3 is pretty much just like that... I worked with my friend for the past few hours and I have Fedora running on my PS3 now. It's kind of dissapointing how easy it was to do it actually. We just followed the steps on Sony's site and bam, Fedora.
The installation process was excruciating though. It took about 3 hours, no joke. I should have used my friends PC and tuner to do the install. It is really hard to read the installation questions on an old tv. I also had to run a cable from the router to the PS3 instead of using the wireless connection for the updates needed.
For some reason, wi-fi was just not cooperating. I'm going to give it a try at my place later on in the morning running in ad-hoc mode since I don't have an access point.
I also need to brush up on my linux because I was having a hard time remembering all the commands. I'm going to kinkos in the morning to print out my linux bible. Man I'm tired, we've been working on this since like 10pm and we didn't finish till like 3am today. I'm knocking out.
Did anyone try this yet?
http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/mirror/u...op-powerpc.isoor MacOS X?Code:sudo cat /proc/cpuinfo
