External Hard Drive Issue
External Hard Drive Issue –
02-27-2011,03:55 AM
I have two external hard drives. When I run Ubuntu . Neither hard drive mounts. I tried terminal but fdisk -l shows nothing. I ran lsusb but I find nothing related to either hard drive. When I ran dmesg, the last line shows: USB disconnect, address 4
What's wierd is that when I connect my usb flash drive and boot Ubuntu it comes out in fdisk. Also I found out hot-swap isn't working. If I disconnect my usb flash drive and reconnected, Ubuntu won't detect it and the flash drive's light won't turn on.
Is anyone else having this issue?

try to hook your external up to the closest port to the left and make sure you only have one usb device hooked up at a time (no other flash drives or external drives it can only see one usb dev before it boots into linux) so just hook keyboard and mouse and external and it should work.

My fat ps3 only has 2 usb ports. If i connect my external to the left port and wait for Ubuntu to boot up then when i get the login screen and i hook up the usb wireless adapter it won't detect my wireless mouse or keyboard . For some reason Hot-Swapping or plug n play doesn't work

got it to work . I connected a usb hub to the left usb port. Before booting Ubuntu I connected Both my wireless adapter(for mouse and keyboard) and external hard drive. They are working and now I can remove whichever one of them and connect it back and it still works (as long i don't remove my usb hub)
