Difference between otherOS, otherOS++ & asbestOS

Hi folks ^^

I'd like to know the difference otherOS, otherOS++ & asbestOS.

I know otherOS was avalible before update 3.21 and that you could launch it from an XMB setting option, with yellowdog os, specially made for the PS3.
After that asbestOS came, which is a homebrew, and can pretty much run every linux distro, works a bit messy but works.

And now otherOS++ is released.. Is it possible to run Yellowdog on otherOS++?

What does have the best performance etc.

I'm no expert but afaik there are 2 main methods to install linux now , the BootOS method and the OtherOS++ . With both you can use any linux distro for PS3 with full hardware acces ,they both use graf's petitboot.
You can install YDL , Ubuntu , Debian ..whatever distro has a powerpc version
With BootOS you can do it on external USB , with OtherOS++ on internal too but it's more complicated with all those resize vflash steps .

the original sony OtherOS did not only work with yellowdog linux. you could use any distro that had a ppc version that worked aswell.

The main difference now is that linux can acces all cores of the CPU and the GPU (but there's no drivers for it yet ) For an end user , not much of a difference but..the best is yet to come

asbestOS with ubuntu and grafs kernel was the best performance, least problems for me. Still waiting on seeing how the otheros++ firmware debian works out.

OtherOS++ has better support as it is still being updated. Updates are coming with OtherOS++ almost daily. The only thing is it is only compatible with nor units atm.

OtherOS++ has the new kernels as well. I'm doing the installs now so I'll report back in the thread where we have been talking.

AsbestOS never worked for me, and the same goes for BootOS. So either 3.15 with the real otherOS or OtherOS++ would be the best ways to run linux atm.

Also whenever they get the kinks worked out, OtherOS++ won't require any additional packages to work, it will all be in the .pup. But that's still a bit off.

so were stuck like at the same point that linux on a 360 is (jtag of course).

wait... your statement is a little vague.. I assume you meant there are no 3d graphics drivers.. I was under the impression that the new OtherOS++ and the petitboot methods used ALL 7 cores of the CPU. Is this correct?

I can hold off on a 3d graphics driver.. but I want access to all 7 cores for video transcoding and media server. Is this possible?
