In theory yes, but it may not end up that way. According to one of his tweets - Twitter / Hector Martin: Investigating how RSX acce ... the 3D experience on Linux that we are used to now may not be the same on the PS3 because of the RSX. Also we would have to develop linux drivers for the RSX so that we can use hardware acceleration instead of software.
emulators usually have architecture specific optimizations. in this case epsxe and pcsx2 are optimized towards 32bit, sse2/sse3 processors that are x86 compatible.
that rules cell out for now.
i am not sure how well does cell perform with generic emulation tasks. it could be that it sucks badly.
pcsx2 is straining pc because of ability to quickly throw data between EE and GS. that proved to be a major bottleneck of pc architecture. putting GS on one thread and EE on the other with aid of multi core cpus improved performance. but the real problem is still out there.
as ps3 architecture is probably designed in similar way it might put less strain on the system to emulate ps2, just because of lack of mentioned limitation.
why would you wan too run:ePSXe, PCSX2
the ps3 itself has it emulated(except for the newer ones then)
i dont think it will be beter if you let it run through linux.
Who writes the driver for asbestos?
Is there already a github? A link would be nice. i would like to jump on the train![]()
