Can anyone provide a download link for this? Has anyone tried this and is it any better than the pdaxrom-ng bootloader?
Too bad that starting Sept. 1, 2009 with the v3.0 firmware from Sony.
OTHEROS is going to be deleted and removed, and NEVER allowed to be installed again.
End-Of-Life for Linux fans on the PS3.
It will not be removed from the old phat ps3. It just won't be available for the new slim models. Still a bad move on Sony's part.
And still,... They are only removing the RTE, so there is a reason for the linux-geeks too to hack the PS3, since the RTE should still work also on slims.
I doubt it, will see what happens with the release of the v3.0 firmware for the older PS3 (fat) models.
I don't see sony having two branches of firmware, one for each design.
If that is the true leaving it in the phat models, someone might soon figure out a way to put the phat v3.0 firmware into the slim model giving that option back to the new slim owners.
as with the psp its always one firmware. Features are enabled and disabled by the firmware installer based on model number (or serial number, however sony looks it up, either way, the installer only installs what your model supports).
this is why a psp firmware file will install skype on a slim, and the same exact file will not install it on a phat.
ps3 is no different here.
Interesting thought, i completely agree with your perspective
I would love to see a softmod for the PS3 that would enable homebrew. Maybe the firmware on the PS3 could be modified like on the PSP to play legal game backups and plus you have a lot of hardware capability's there to take advantage of and if it is possible maybe the firmware could be replaced with a OS or something like XBMC.
