Right since glevland released an entirely new method for OtherOS++ and linux for the PS3 as of 6/5/2011 and 6/6/2011 this will serve as a place holder for my guide since I have to completely scrap the old one.

I will be working on the guide starting tomorrow and will be continuing to do so all week since I have a 1 week vacation off of college.

This guide will cover the following :
+ complete installation instructions of 1 or two distros.
+ How to install all of Graf's tools, and kernel.
    + How to install emulators
+ How to install AROS (Amiga research Operating system)
    + How to install PSl1ght(possibly.)
+ Any other suggestions that the community wants me to add.

note : This guide will be available in this thread and will also be available as a .PDF download in as well.

Final note : For anyone that is on a 256 nand PS3 DO NOT USE THE OLD TOOLS from the 22nd. I believe those are vflash based tools and there has already been 1 reported brick. Use the tools from 6/5 and 6/6.

Will you follow the new guide with ps3dd in stead of ps3vflashh?

Looking forward to the guide, respect for all the hard work you put into it

Edit: latest OtherOS++ CFW fixes the trophy error as it seems. See my thread about the error
Edit2: petitboot installed, ps3dd visible and MW2 still starts.... love it
Edit3: I'm stuck with parted. GPT has to be supported by the kernel and i don't know how to do that from within petitboot. I used the debian install disk but no GPT option with old kernel.

Yes I plan on using the very latest methods. I may also include Vflash for people that may want to use it. But I'll more then likely just use the HDD method.

parted? What's that? Are you using graf's kernel? I haven't started working on it yet so I won't know how to fix things until I start working on it tomorrow.

    from http://7track.org/~glevand/public/IN...OTHEROS_ON_HDD

    12. You should see now new HDD device on petitboot, /dev/ps3dd.
    That's your OtherOS HDD region.
Don't touch any other HDD regions if you don't know what you are doing. Use only ps3dd
device for your Linux installation. Use parted to partition it and create GPT partition
table on ps3dd. GPT is supported by both, Linux and FreeBSD.
GPT is ony supported with new kernel. Maybe I will install latest kernel to my usb stick debian and see if I can create it that way. I'll see.

    Wiki says this about it:
    (PS3:OtherOS++ - Wikibrew)
    Partition the PS3 Drive
    1. parted /dev/ps3dd
    2. mklabel gpt
    3. mkpart primary 0 2GB
    4. print
    5. mkpart primary 2GB (the rest of the hard drive here.)
    6. quit. mkpart primary 0 2GB

How is it going with the guide?

Github updated their guide's mabye it helpt u to.

    PS3:OtherOS++ - Wikibrew
and to install linux check this
    PS3:Linux - Wikibrew

I think i did everything from the first link, but i have no idea what to do now.
There are so many guides, so talk about NAND some about VFLASH and some say VFLASH is depreciated.

To much guides to much old rubbish.

I hope your guide lets me install otheros++ and linux.

It will m8. Tell you the truth it might not be released till Sunday. But I'm gonna try my damndest to release a rough draft tomorrow. I have huge plans for this project so it's gonna take awhile for a complete guide. I want to include several distro's, full emulator installs, and all kinds of other things. Some of this stuff I'm researching it as I actually do the guide. So yea... it's gonna take a bit.

It's a perfect opportunity for me to help the community, and learn more things about linux at the same time.

EDIT: Anyone want to volunteer for contributing a NAND only portion of the guide? I only have a NOR PS3 so I'm gonna need some help on the NAND side. I have been noticing that people with NAND PS3's are having trouble with the released methods. So anyone that would be able to work with me side by side so we can have a NAND only and NOR only section of the guide would be greatly appreciated! It would greatly help a lot of the newer people in the scene as well as the majority of PS3 owners that exist. . (Yes I just now thought of this while reading more threads. Yes I'm a dumbass :P)

If you want to help me I need you to meet the following requirements :
+ Have atleast decent linux experience. (meaning you know how to issue commands correctly, install packages, use CLI,) (Basically be a step above a brand new user.)
    + NAND PS3 (well duh :P)
+ Successfully installed the current implementation as of 6/5 6/6(and on) on a NAND PS3 and can reproduce ALL of the steps.
+ Be able to reproduce the troubleshooting steps you had to go through if any. (this will greatly help in the QA department when new comers ask questions.)

If you meet these requirements please contact me. You will receive FULL credit for all of your contributions as if you were the one who decided to make the guide in the first place. - I don't steal anyone's work.

Sorry for the double post :

I still need someone with NAND experience to help me create a guide for NAND users. Also sorry for still not releasing yet. I'm still getting the guide together and I'm having a bit of problems with linux.

But I'm actually glad I'm having problems. The more problems I get, the more I can document which will help out new users in the long run. But as soon as I get my rough draft done I will release it. This guide won't be anywhere near "final" for a good while.

I plan on releasing revisions at least once a week hopefully.

OK cheers guys. I will PM you the guide once my first revision is finished.

I want too apologize to everyone so far that is waiting on my release, it's been a busy week and college started back up unexpectedly. I thought I was off till fall but I guess not. Also I'm having a bit of issues with the NOR install.

    The good news?
The guide will only benefit from the problems.
Also I noticed that a new linux distro custom made for the PS3 has been released by r04drunner from Elotrolado, so I plan on including instructions on how to install that as well. (I will of course give credit too him.)

So those are the good things about it being delayed a bit more. I have more information to add both in the FAQ section, as well as the main feature section of the tutorial.

I will hopefully release this guide sometime tomorrow or Friday. I'm shooting for tomorrow but it depends on how long it takes me at the doctor's. No matter what this will be the final delay. I will have this released by Friday no matter what!
