Yet another Waninkoko tread: Issues after the fact - Poll

OK, so now that Waninkoko's firmware has been installed and tested, this is just an information thread aiming at finding specific issues.

Do NOT post any bitching and complaining about Bricking.. Please keep this thread clean and as professional as possible, cause I don't want to have to go out and find you then slap you for asking where your BM is...

Need this info:

Model (number - Phat/slim)
Original FW:
Flashing steps
Issue: XMB Freeze, game crash, post flash brick
Result: Restore OFW, Brick...


Here is my friends info (I have a 256 phat)

Model: CECH-2k - Slim
Original FW: 3.55-JB
Steps: Geo > Recovery OFW > XMB Waninkoko
Issue: Random black screen in XMB after 30 minutes, button's don't respond (pwr or eject) hard power down.
Result: Recovery back to OFW then Geo JB.

Seems like there are much less issues then expected. Good to see... I advised him to dump his NAND before fuc*ing with it some more, so I will report back in a day or two in the thread is still alive.

I'm part of the wait and see tribe, thankfully so as well because I would have ended up with a brick as I'm in the 256MB NAND danger group.

Still looking forward to the day I don't have to jailbreak my comp, and also to when I can install a firmware I'm confident won't throw a wobbler at some point in the future.

i also think that the person that voted crashing/black screen etc.. should explain their vote just as the poll states.. this way people would have more knowledge of the problematic systems..

Direct XMB update
Issue: Some games freeze at install, some with black screen, need hard restart. Mainly due to patched eboots, replace with original eboot and update works fine afterwards. Did freeze once on XMB at game data when trying to do some deletes.

Also, cannot download some games or demo from PSN, I receive the 80029519 error.

Random issues in XMB: Crash, Black Screen (explain)

updated all fine to 3.55 wani, installed multiman and rodrego BM's, copied 6 of my legit games onto the internal HDD.

Everything seemed to work fine, updating some games seemed " clunkier " than usual, some times failing update or freezing the screen which only a power off would cure.

locked up once or twice when deleting some saved game data.

Never has crashed in multi man or a bm, only seems to be when it was wrting an update / editing / deleting game data.


went back to OFW for the time being, reflashed through recovery mode, no issues


All on 120GB slim

Also to note these were not "Frequent crashes" i was one of the first to test wani 3.55 and i had maybe total of 4 freezes in 5 hours, but only seemed to be in situations i listed above, after doing some looking into it a possible explanation seems to be its because Waninkoko's Cfw use syscall 6 & 7 which is the same as PL3 dev payload and pl3 famous for Random Xmb crashes

That random crash is my friend's console.

He has 3.55-Geohot installed, and did a recovery Restore to OFW, when he built the FW he confirmed the MD5 and it was fine (I looked at his work later that night).

The Flash was a success from XMB to the CFW, worked fine for an hour or so, but all of a sudden he was getting black screens and freezing on XMB, backups would load as they should be, but exiting back to XMB would just stay at a black screen.

Luckily he was able to do a restore to OFW before anything serious happened.

This is a good friend of mine and we took the same courses in college, he knows what he's doing and has a head on his shoulders. He followed the steps properly, and made sure he understood what was happening..

This might be an isolated freak occurrence, but I wanted to put it out there that there might potentially be a risk of post flashing bricking (if at all possible), and last thing the scene needs is a shit ton of people with bricks a week or two from now..

So any issues like: Black screen, freezing, exiting game/app back to XMB = crash, XMB overlay over game = issue.. ANYTHING that is didn't do before the flash.
