    Thought I would bring this to everyone’s attention as this hasn't been posted yet.

    Credit goes to NextGenUpdate members D19RNY and ThereThatGuy

    Bypass only currently works on 3.30 firmware, so I have no way of confirming whether this works as I am on 3.41!

    Here is a SIMPLE guide on how to bypass the firmware. You must currently have firmware 3.30 to use this method. It is possible to do with lower firmware.. Also, we might be able to downgrade doing this, but I'm not risking corrupting my HDD.

    Needed:
    PS3 Proxy Server
    A PC and PS3 using Same Router
    (old) update-list.txt

    PREPARATION:
    Create a new .txt. document named "ps3-updatelist.txt" Put this in it

    # US
    Dest=84;CompatibleSystemSoftwareVersion=3.3000-;
    Dest=84;ImageVersion=0000a4b4;SystemSoftwareVersio n=3.3000;CDN=http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/us/2010_0422_6bdf1b2409d705a0136c40746c62e85d/PS3UPDAT.PUP;CDN_Timeout=30;

    1. Set up the PS3 proxy server. Put your IP in the box, also make sure to check the PS3 box and hit start.
    2. Go to the Replace files Tab and in the left box put

    http://fus01.ps3.update.playstation....updatelist.txt

    3. In the right box browse to your ps3-updatelist.txt and click it.
    4. Sign In, it should not ask you to update firmware. Congratulations, you are playing online with your PS3 on firmware 3.30!

    This is possible without the proxy server! If you have a parental control router, redirect the updatelist URL to the URL of an older updatelist! They are uploaded all over, so they are easy to find.

    I tried this on 3.41, doesn't seem to work. This worked back when the DNS trick worked (afaik the DNS server does the same thing this does). Anyone actually get this to work?

    I didn't move it, as I don't think it would work, as the Proxy and DNS bypass has been blocked for a few days now.

    I was trying to view the original link as source on "NextGenUpdate", but it seems my PC IP been banned, I can not access it.

    I look it up on other sites like EOL.net, and noone in Spain got it to work either.

    Tested it, it doesn't work at all for 3.41. For anyone who's interested, don't waste your time.

    I was able to fool the PS3 into thinking that i had the latest firmware (when i click YES on system update, it prompts me that my system has the latest firmware) but yet the new update prompt never fails to show whenever i try to sign in to PSN.

    So i'm guessing there's an additional level of system firmware check beyond the basic ps3updatelist.txt (perhaps there's another connection to another address for crossverification?) that's yet to be discovered.

    So till then, no luck!

    P.S all the $0ny PS3updat.pup links for versions earlier than 3.50 seems to be dead. Only 3.50 and 3.55 are active.

    BTW, that news item is an exact cut& paste of the same article that came out around august I think... So no, it doesn't work, it has been patched by Sony already...

    EDIT : Oh look, it's even older than that, this post is dated in july : http://www.fivestargamerz.com/f19/ho...ay-online-642/
