Like few other people from this forum I got ps3 with 3.55 CFW.
I bought mine with 3.55 ofw and just updated it to cfw and it was like that few years now.
I use it only for games and watching video via PS3MS.

I dont know any game that wouldn't work with MM, 3.55 and fix's. I readed when roger cfw was out that you dont need to DEX your console anymore and dont need to fix eboots with 4.30 roger, and you can use official updated for games.

Are there any other advantages from updating to higher fw? I dont own any flashers to go back to 3.55 if it will be necessary in future. And I didn't find any info in Q&A and FAQ here. Theres always choice between 3.55 and 4.30

    Thanks for help

I have 2 PS3 both were on kmeaw cfw 3.55 & I've updated one of them to Rogero cfw 4.31 since then love it. I don't have to look around eboots patches...But I keep one on kmeaw cfw 3.55 for PSN compatibilty. Since you have to resign all your psn 3.55 game pkg 's to 4.30 which takes sometimes...So it's really up to you if you want to play all new games without eboots rogero cwf or rebug is way to go!

I never install any PSN games. I understand that you need resign them if you install them on 3.55 and want to use on 4.30 ?

I am sitting on 3.55 from Glevand. Before I was on kmeaw 3.55 but I wanted to have Linux running on my slim ps3, so I installed 3.55 from Glevand 20GB to Linux and very happy with it.
Now I can install Debian, Ubuntu and Red Ribbon... Awesome....

Best Regards from PS3 Linux User

It is definitely worth it and you don't need flashers to go back to 3.55 if you ever need to, if you install Rebug, it's very easy to downgrade especially if you're QA'd. So this is what you have to do:

    1- Make NOR/NAND dump (optional):
Install latest version of multiMAN, plug in a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive into the right USB port, go to mmOS->Select any file->Open in HEX viewer->[SELECT]->[START]->DUMP LV2(NO)->DUMP LV1(NO)->DUMP FLASH(YES)

2- Install Rebug 4.30.2 from XMB:
Download Rebug 4.30.2 from Rebug's website, rename the PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and put it on your FAT32 formatted flash drive in PS3\UPDATE and go to System Update and update from storage device (or something like that). Make sure there's no original game disk in the drive and that you don't update from the Internet or else you would install OFW!

    3- Install Rebug Toolbox:
Install Rebug Toolbox from Package Manager, launch it and enable QA under Utilities. This is to ensure easier and safer downgrading. You can also change System Mode to Rebug to spoof to 4.31, XMB Operation Mode to Retail and Debug Menu Type to CEX QA. This is to ensure you have the Retail menus instead of the Debug menus which you probably don't need.

Yes that's right, I did say enable QA while on Rebug 4.30.2 because this is now possible thanks to Rebug!
    CECHL 500GB: OFW 2.50 > OFW 2.76 > OFW 3.41 w/ dongle > OFW 3.55 > 3.55 kmeaw > Rebug 4.30.1 > Rebug 4.30.2

Install Rebug regardless, even if the settings are there you don't have to use them if you don't want to. Rebug just Released 4.30.2 REX and you can now enable QA on 4.xx!

So the ability to downgrade back to 3.55 is Rebug only?
It's very interesting because I only watch the people are hyped about Rogero bla bla bla, and didn't know I could downgrade back to 3.55 if I didnt like the 4.30 cfw. THAT IS A VERY IMPORTANT THING. Probably will try it! But will read about it a bit more :-) so i wont brick my beloved console.

I know about linux on slim, but when I was interested in it the cell drivers wasn't so great on it, and the rendering was rubbish. It's great thing to have it back and we can make a great Distributed System (aka Cluster) but Im now more into just playing :-) But that is the point, and because of that I want to have ability to go back to 3.55

Hoping I can finally enjoy gameplay with all those bugfix from patches

I hope that recent MultiMan will work :-)

Edit: I think Im out-of-dated about downgrading :-) but will try to be more updated.

Edit2: It looks like I can downgrade from both, and both work well but Rebug have more options to play/brake and Rogero is more out-of-box-simple-as-can-be.
I will pick the Rebug then. Will try to find a bigger guide for updating/backuping.

I understand that my saves will be safe when i upgrade my fw?

So is the downgrade is really Rebug only function I will check it out. Hoping I can finally enjoy gameplay with all those bugfix from patches

No the ability to downgrade back to 3.55 is not Rebug only. All 4.xx CFWs can be downgraded back to 3.55, but with non Rebug CFW, you have to use a downgrader pup and then dehash it. With Rebug, you can downgrade by just installing Rebug 3.55 from XMB if you are QA'd. You only have to use the downgrader pup if you're not QA'd.

Yes the latest version of mM works.
