Will Sony win this war after releasing 3.60?
Will Sony win this war after releasing 3.60? –

Hello you PS3 experts,
I have read a lot of threads (here and on other forums).
On another forum they say that Sony is going to remove the option 'Update Firmware via USB".
Furthermore I read things like blacklisting all known homebrews (like the AwesomeFileManager, OpenManager etc.)
And the 3rd shocking thing is that Sony are going to completely disable the USB controller while the PS3 is booting.
So, let's summarize:
- No JB sticks (for Service/Debug mode or downgrading)
- No FW update offline (unless it's an original BD game)
- No more working signed tools
- No more adding of new signed tools
- No more GeoHot CFW (I think he has other - more serious problems - now -> lawsuit)
I hope that not all of that points are true.
If they are, Sony can win.
But as you already know I am an unexperienced user, so I don't know any of the possibilities.

Communities like ours have a tendency to make it through tough times. We'll be okay. Don't worry too much, and don't update your system. :P

I think we all jumped the gun on what fail0verflow said at 27C3. Patchably by software probably, however NOR flashing would work ad infinitum on current models.
However if every firmware from now can be edited (dumped from BDVDs on hacked versions), then surely for those on 3.55 and below, these lists could be taken out/edited?

Nothing against Math (legend). Next quote irrelevant to above lol.

Haven't actually jail broke my system yet but was planing to today.now I was looking forward to some sweet homebrew, but I like playing my multi player like mag and bad company 2, if they come up with a new patch and I don't upgrade will I still be able to play online? like a method of making them think I'm running the latest fw or just not check? Thx

Good idea, but how do you want to copy and use it?
Imagine there is no working program like the AwesomeFileManager.
I believe the dumping is not complicated, but it seems complicated to modify and use it.
(At least I guess that...)

to put new cfw on ps3, just ftp it over instead of usb?

PS3 60GB Launch BC w/ Kmeaw's CFW - YLOD.
PS3 Slim 120GB OFW 4.30.
PS3 80GB w/ 320GB Internal HDD, Rogero 4.30CFW v2.00.

- No JB sticks (for Service/Debug mode or downgrading)
no need for that already
- No FW update offline (unless it's an original BD game)
online updates can be spoofed just as easily
it's impossible to blacklist every homebrew software, whitelist of "legit" software is possible, but hard to implement.
even if the firmware is updatred to remove current exploits, it will be possible to install "backdoor" homebrew prior to installation of new firmware.

How if it won't start it?
Transfering a file is one thing, but starting it??

I thought the official PSN was the only online source for updates!?
So you say it could be possible to create a faked PSN with a CFW?

I think it's enough to blacklist the current homebrews because theoretically you shouldn't be able to start or modify them nor to install new ones.
The whitelist might be even bigger and more complicated since there are plenty of games and demos, not sure.

nope, but you can redirect particular files (*.pup) to your own servers, either with proxy or dns.
anyway, for us end-users, nothing changed - don't update to the latest firmware until it's exploited, and I think with all the keys leaked now, it won't take long to exploit any new firmware sony might create.
