Will it be possible to run all the games in the diskless mode?

Hi,

my 40gb ps3 is already pretty old and the laser lens are dead - it reads no games, dvds or cds. As a consequence, I cannot run such great games as Heavy Rain, GOW3 or CoD Black Ops. I was wondering whether there's any point in buying a new laser with dock (about $60 with shippment from Hong Kong). I am aware it might get an ylod or whatever so I dunno if it would be wise to pump any more money in it.

As there have been lately some great news concerning hacking of the ps3, i was thinking that maybe it would be soon possible to run those games with no disk in. What do you think ?

This is exactly my problem, it died on Christmas day, when trying my present the move starter pack it wouldn't read the disc. No other discs work so br is dead. I've done research on getting a replacement but no easy task of changing the laser, opening up the ps3 and aligning the laser is tricky.

I'm hoping too that a workaround is found, its strange how some games work fine with no disc, and others are a real bitch.

this can be done if you can edit the eboot there is a tut on hear

I too have an almost release day 40gb fat ps3. Everything is working except the bluray laser lens. It stopped working immediately after upgrading to 3.15 back then wich caused a lot of lasers to fail according to the forums. So I hope to that the development of the ps3 scene will allow us to play every ps3 format games off an external hard drive via USB. It would be so cool

Yes. Any game that is patched to run from the the XMB will work fine discless.

so you are saying that it is now possible run gow3 or heavy rain using jailbroken 3.41 ps3 with no disk in ? I really couldn't find any tutorial to run those games disklessly... Could you please provide us with a link?

Yes. Any game that is patched to run from the the XMB will work fine discless.

Does it mean that patching the game to run from the the XMB can be done right now or this method it is not ready yet but people are working on that?
If it is, is there any tutorial?

I read in another thread that someone has tested GOW 3 with this method and it is working.
