will compression on ps3 games be possible?

so some games are ridiculously big like god of war 3 being around 40gb and ratchet and clank for some reason being over 20gb...

now will compression of these ps3 games be possible soon? my hard drive just isnt big enough to backup all of my games and I cant be asked to go buy another hdd.

I mean any compression what so ever would be sufficient do you guys think its possible?

eh, yeh, it could probably be possible to compress video files down to a low quality so that they take up less space. maybe even compress audio files .
and also maybe rip out unnecessary files. might take a long while before this kind of stuff starts happening..

damn that sucks becuase when you got a game like just cause 2 being less than 4gb and than final fantasy 13 is 40gb same with god of war 3 you realize the devs flat out did not compress a single thing!!

also no one wants compressed video but its the audio that takes up a shit load of space

Does it really matter because you can get 1+ terrabyte hard drives for pretty cheap now?

wow must of took you forever to download them, penisdoomed can you please stop starting new threads with your how can I get this pirated game to work crap

What you talking about, not compressed? I assure you FFXIII\gow3 are all highly compressed. If FFXIII wasn't compressed it would be 500GB not 40GB. uncompressed video at 1080p is going to be about 7GB per MINUTE!!!

...Then audio, well 6 channel audio at 48khz (most likely)...That's another 3GB odd an hour too...then there's all the audio in the game...that's going to be another 30 odd GB surely with all the dialogue...

That's the trouble with the PS3. too many fanboys interested in it and misquote an misinform others about "PS3 doesn't use compression cos it has bluray" and similar total BS.
