Why So Difficult? –
02-02-2011,03:40 AM
Hi - Let me start by saying I'm very excited about finding this site and being an active member. Thank you for this opportunity. I am however having some comprehension issues with the whole 'jail-break' thing. I recently purchased the psbreak v1.2 usb chip. Granted, I should have researched the whole thing a little more but now find myself with a phat v3.55 system that I cannot even use the key with. I've read a ton of tutorials, but seems none are consistent. Would someone mind pointing me in the right direction with a somewhat simplified tutorial of how to downgrade my ps3 to fw v3.41 as this is apparently the only fw that will work correctly. I truly appreciate the help. Thank you.

Yeh, just download this and install like a normal update through USB: Dashhacks :: PS3-Hacks :: Kmeaw's 3.55 CFW Patched PUP
To be as safe as possible, download an md5 tool and check the .pup after downloading to be sure it matches this: CFW 3.55 kmeaw md5: 2be5e87a22bf1e7f48e98fcabd38977b.
You can keep the PSBreak for getting into service mode if you need to.
Good luck!

For information puproses, what is the PUP file and why is there reason to patch it?

a pup file is a little piece of metal used for making your dogs toes look nice and the patch is for just incase you cut your dogs toes for ever an ever amen hallelulia
if all else fails stand on your head and squeeze your nose and count to 30 secs works for me anyway

Kmeaw is easy use, no downgrade required and if your lucky you might be able to sell your dongle.

the PUP file is the firmware update file
you need to patch the O(riginal)FW PUP to make it a C(ustom)FW
i think there's some sort of legal issue providing the already patched Firmware Update, that's why most of the times, you'll be told to grab the OFW and then patch it yourself, comparing the MD5 of the resulting CFW PUP.
But then again, there's plenty of sites that offer the pre-patched CFW

i'd actually keep it, in case such kind of (upgradeable) dongles are ever needed to jailbreak in the future. (some new USB exploit, possibly?)
(or has sony patched ANY kind of usb vulnerability for good?, cmiiw)

thanks gents as I really appreciate you taking your time to help me out. I realize these questions are answered over-and-over for most of the new people as they arrive in the forums. I have successfully installed kmeow's 3.55 cfw (patched) pup along with Multimon and kmeow's pkg patch. If I read the tut correctly, i must run this pkg patch each time prior to running multimon? Also, I have confirmed my bluray still functions. so i believe I am set as far as software install is concerned. i am curious if it's okay to enable my ps3 network with a cfw installed? You guys see anything that I've missed so-far? One last question, running backups from an external fat32 hdd. I have the file(s) on my ext. hdd, but am not sure in which direction i must proceed?
