Now that we have the mtldr keys and the private keys, why cant we just sign our programs and use stock fw?

we can that is what we are doing, you cant use stock firmware because how are you going to install the packages if you don't have the install package there.

How do you think you are going to install them?

MFW is needed to add the 'install package' option, so you have a method of getting apps onto the console. Also, Sony didn't 'epic fail' the .pkg keys, hence the need for a MFW that skips the .pkg signature check.

Source? I'm under the impression the pkg signing tools just aren't finished. All we should need is a install package option.

As they said, there'd be no way to install pkgs on an unmodified firmware.
You'll have to at least use a modified firmware to install the pkg.
Whatever's installed after that, will still work on the official firmwares, if you choose to go back.

I saw it mentioned by a few people in threads on here, so it may not be 100% accurate.

That would explain it. I believe geohot patched nas_plugin so we could use homebrew with his MFW, as without proper pkg signing tools it's not possible on OFW. I'd much rather see a proper pkg signing tool, these hacks are taking us in the wrong direction. Here's hoping fail0verflow finishes their ps3tools.
