Why do people keep calling it "jailbreaking"

Jailbreak was the name given to the first iPhone hack and subsequently iPhone hacking in general became known as jailbreaking. Since the iPhone is the most popular hacked device, it seems jailbreaking has grown to become a synonym of hacking and isn't just limited to the iPhone anymore.

The initial PS3 hack was called PSJailBreak. The open source version was called PSGroove and some adherents have become known as PSFreedom. I myself prefer to call the hack PSGroove, and just call it hacking.

it's called jailbreaking because geohot had a hand in developing this, hence they called it a jailbreak. (remember he developed the original iphone jailbreak?)

It's called jailbreaking because it allows running of unsigned code....Just like the iPod jailbreaking allows running of unsigned applications.

That is why.

The fact the original device was called "PSJailbreak" has nothing to do with it at all.

Also, the reason the Xbox 360 when hacked isn't "jailbroken" is because the original OS is being modified to allow that, with thiis - just like the iPhone, it's done in 1 fell swoop and just "turned off".
