Where to get started..
Where to get started.. –

Ok, I am a little overwhelmed by the info on this forum, so I need some quick pointers in the right direction.
I've got a ps3 on fw 3.5 with a non-matching BD drive.
So I was hoping to jailbreak it to play backups from a hard drive, but I can't figure out what the best way it to get started..
I have some PIC 18f2550 IC's lying arround, and was hoping to do something with those..
any helpfull tips?

Ah! I didn't even know that remarrying was possible yet!
But doesnt that require me to downgrade my console to 5.30 first?
edit:
Hmm, I have a 256Mb NAND console (CECHC), so it appears that I am out of luck on the BD remarry now..
And dont I first need to have some sort of a dongle to get it into FSM?

So I'll go work on flashing a bootloader to my PIC2550 with my FTDI usb-rs232TTL cable =)

Ok, an update:
I managed to build the schematic with LVP as given in iLLNESS's thread:

(top right)
hooked it up to an lab power supply (being sure to connect the ground of the board to the ground of the ltp port, leaving the power supply in an ungrounded outlet), and fired it up...
After some fiddling I managed to successfully flash the bootloader provided in the same thread (MCHPUSB_BOOTLOADER.hex).
Here is where my problem is, I can't get windows (xp or 7) to 'like' my board, it wont install any drivers, and indicates that the device has 'stopped because of an error'
I am guessing I got the wrong bootloader, but can somebody point me in the right direction? (again
)
so just to be clear, my goal is:
- downgrade my ps3 on 3.5 to 2.3
- remarry BD drive
- flash to 3.55 cfw

Thanks for the warning
, I am at work now, so I cant be for sure, but I do know that its a 256 NAND model.. probably CHECHC.
I can only find fw for 3.41 consoles on there... does that mean that I have to use a different software?
I am not entirely sure what firmware version was on the console by factory default, as I got it second hand with 3.5 on it... But judging at the age and model nr. I am willing to take the risk.
