They are probably working on 3.6 or even a totally renovated 4.0, then what happens to the hard work put into the CFW 3.55s?http://psx-scene.com/forums/images/s...hinscratch.gif
They should hire Geohot to develop their new OFW http://psx-scene.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

New Firmware will lead to new patches - i'd honestly expect a slight lag time though between when a new OFW is released and when it's patched.

But really, that's nothing new for this sort of thing.

It's all a great big game of cat and mouse from here on out. Just look at the PSP if it's reassurance you're after.

They'll never be able to block firmware modding.

Next update has to work from 3.55 so they can't do any whitelists or whatever else. So it can be modded. Then the next firmware from that can be modified since any new security can presumably be dumped from the previous firmware to allow the dumping of the next one and from there it is a never ending cycle.

That's why it's taking them so long to release a firmware update (the USB Exploit and 3.50 downgrader were blocked by now if we compare time of hack release to how long it took for a patch). They're obviously thinking hard about how they can truly block the fail0verflow findings.

part of it has to do with the court case. if they stay on this fw they can build more data and evidence for the courts but once they release 3.59 they can't submit any more evidence of the psn being compromised of its security unless it happens, which may take weeks or months.

thats the only thing they own. psn and they can do whatever they want to control that but our ps3's are ours and not theirs to control.

Great thinking thanks for sharing. Although it's absurd to think they're leaving the PS3 open just to prove a point in court. Although I guess it could help them in the long term.

Then people with hacked PS3s won't be able to go online.

Which is how it should be. It'd be nice if the devs could intentionally leave a few weeks of lag time after every Sony update before releasing their own, so as not to inconvenience non-hackers terribly much, and as well to try and keep hacked consoles offline.
