What hardware to look for?

Hypothetically speaking, if a person were interested in playing backed up PS3 games on a PS3 console, what hardware would be needed? Obviously, firmware 3.55 or lower is a must. What else? Can it be used and with a broken bluray drive? How would the game be transferred to the PS3 and would it work?

....mainly warez....lol not gonna really get into it but yea cuz legit copies would have to befrom the actual disk which would have to be in the working bluray drive....

but if you were to own the disc anyway, it may actually be faster (hahahaha) to download it and transfer it to your ps3.
Remember, fair use and all that shazbot.

What if the bluray disc is broken? Can't a person just use a bluray drive on a PC to copy the data from the bluray disc to the PS3?

Yeah. But if you don't already have a BD drive in your PC, then you might as well just get a replacement BD drive for the PS3

I do, just not a burner (was too expensive when I bought the BD reader). Anyway, if that's possible, I'll keep an eye out for a 3.55 or lower used PS3 where the only thing wrong is that it can't read the discs.

If the PC Bluray drive can read and copy a PS3 game disc , don't you think pirated Bluray games on discs would already be on sale by now?

It should be able to easily read the discs. It's the burning process that's preventing everything. They have to be burned with the NPRDRM keys in order for the PS3's BD drive to be able to read it as an official game. Correct me, someone, if I'm wrong.

Not interested in burning discs. I am simply wondering if it is possible to take a Bluray disc, insert it into a bluray PC drive, and copy it to the PS3 to be able to play it. In other words: is it possible to play games on a PS3 with a non functioning bluray drive?

Just an amazing misunderstanding of how anything works.
Reading and writing are basically the same thing. If something can be read from a disk - it can be written to a disk.
PS3 games cannot be copied with a PC BluRay drive because the PC drive cannot read the disk.
There was a drive iirc that could read (some?) PS3 games though.
