As far as I know, the B/C consoles are almost entirely hardware based (the USA one I have is hardware based, the UK one is part hardware and part software).

Once there is a basic PS2 emulator running, then we could look into removing the region coding... which would make me a very happy man! I could sell one of my B/C consoles then and just run all my PS1/PS2 content on my JB'ed USA PS3.
