What can we do without the dongle?

Just wandering sence, people are saying we no longer need a dongle to do things now i just wanting to know
What exactly can we do without one?
Just load that new Custom firmware?

This is what you do:

*Upgrade to 3.55 CFW via USB (GeoHot's one).
*Install signed .pkgs and run stuff just fine

That's it. You just start PS3 normally and PSN works for now. If Sony can tell you're running custom they may ban you though, so tread carefully!

oh know i have a 60gb ps3 on 3.41 and my dongle is in the mail. i just never got it yet
So i was wandering if i can do everything the dongle can do, without having the dongle lol.
3.55 can this be downgraded?
would this 3.55 let me play back ups? i read somewhere that it wont let me, if this is the casse i should just wait till my dongle comes?
