Want to Jailbreak my 60 GB 4.1 PS3. Will pay someone good money to do it if this doesn't work!
Want to Jailbreak my 60 GB 4.1 PS3. Will pay someone good money to do it if this doesn't work! –
I am a total noob at this, so please bear with me. I've researched some of the firmware downgrading methods, and since I don't think I'll be able to pull it off without bricking my system (soldering intimidates me), I am considering purchasing a jailbroken ps3 from eBay. Basically, I want to mod some of my Dragon Age: Origins saves.
However, here is the problem. I believe the data transfer utility entails that both PS3s have the latest firmware, so this may not be an option. Then there's PS+, which could store my stuff online, but wouldn't I have to update the jailbroken PS3 with the latest firmware (thus, defeating the purpose of buying it) to access my game saves?
If there are no possible ways to transfer my game saves (Dragon Age has locked saves) from my 4.1 PS3 to a jailbroken PS3, I am willing to pay someone to downgrade my PS3 to an earlier firmware so I can jailbreak it. I live in NYC and will pay cash!
1. Is it possible to transfer locked game saves from a 4.1 OFW PS3 to CFW PS3?
2. If 1 isn't possible, is there anyone on here who can direct me to either noob-friendly directions of someone who can downgrade my PS3?
Thank you very much BahumatLord!
Just to clarify - PS3 Save Unlocker would allow me to somehow transfer my saves to a jailbroken PS3 (since I can't jailbreak my current one)?
Also, can you please provide some brief instructions as to how I will go about using PS3 Save Unlocker?
it's real easy. you need a save file for the game you want to transfer from both consoles. it will ask for the one from your destination console (3.55) and one from the source (4.00). It will take all the console/user specific info from the destination console and apply it to the source save so you can copy your source save to your destination console. It sounds harder than it is. It's actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

Thanks again BahamatLord!
Ok, so I have a 60 GB PS3 with 4.1 OFW. I am going to purchase a jailbroken PS3 as soon as I can find one. Since I'm only interested in transferring (and modding) a few saves at a time, I think I can just use a USB. Given this, can I just purchase any old jailbroken PS3, or should I get a specific model?
Also, once you mod a game on one system and transfer it back, do the mods stay? One last question (for now, lol), does this disable trophies? I heard somewhere that it does, but take it with a grain of salt, since I'm brand spanking new to this scene haha
In addition to looking for a pre-jailbroken PS3, you may also want to look for a PS3 with firmware 3.55 or below. Jailbreaking is incredibly simple and easy for PS3s at or below 3.55. Good Luck.
Thanks for the pointer, indirect76. Eh, if the prices are similar, I'll likely just buy a pre-jailbroken PS3 to save myself that one step.
After I've done what I wanted with the saves on the jailbroken PS3, can I transfer them back to my 4.1 PS3 with the mods intact? Also, does doing this disable trophies for my username for a given game? I've heard that it does, so just want to be sure.
It does not stop you from getting trophies. If you ever get a message about not getting trophies, delete the new transferred save and create a save on the jailbroken console. Then use ftp to transfer the new save over top of the old one to fix it. It's an extremely rare issue with ps3saveunlocker and extremely few games. I've only seen it once with Star Wars The Force Unleashed

Thanks again! Also, does the PS3 unlocker work on Dragon Age Origins saves? That's the game I'm most interested in modding. I read the thread you attached, and some people claimed it didn't work on all games.
Almost ready to go hunt down a jailbroken PS3!
