want to buy ps3 need advice!

im completely new and ignorant to the ps3 modding scene ive always owned a jtaged xbox 360 and before a chipped xbox.
ive been a long time user of the xbox scene forum.
i have decided nows the time time to buy a ps3 and looking at my options.

what version of the console can i buy that i can run backed up games? phat/slim/super slim?
are slims less prone to ylod?
what would be the best method? usb stick i assume and external hd? which one is the best,cobra?

sorry alot of questions i know, but cant seem to find what the latest advice is!

If you want to run backups, you need a ps3 on firmware 3.41 or 3.55. From there if you want to install the latest CFW you can or you can use 3.41 CFW or 3.55 CFW. But to use the latest CFW you need a ps3 on firmware 3.55. It doesnt really matter what type of ps3 you get it can be a phat or a slim. Slims are a lot less prone to getting YLOD or RSOD, and they just have a longer life span than phats, and have better hardware equipped in them, phats are still good but not as good. An external HDD is a good choice if you wanna run backups because they will take up a lot of room on your HDD. And the best CFW for 3.55 is your opinion really, but if you get a 3.55 and update to 4.30 CFW, use Rogeros latest CFW.
